Lovely home! Post war, 1960s I’m guessing? Ours is similar but only double fronted. What about a mid century inspired interior style? Nothing too retro/kitsch though. Lots of inspiration online in this style. There are many lovely vintage furniture suppliers out there if you wanted something true to the era. Or else many modern furniture companies now do pieces in this style too.

Keep to warm colours. Soft. Floor boards polished. Ceramic door and cabinet handles. Round. Patterned with flowers or off white with brass or ceramic rose.
In a large house there would have been a formal dining room. Cornices would define with more ornate in the living and dining rooms.
But whilst it’s nice to be respectful to a period, we have moved on from the public and private room scenario. Remember they would have had a mix of old hand me down or inherited pieces and new pieces.
So I’d keep to warm colours and cornices not square set ceilings and let the rest reflect that tone with no hard rules. Enjoy

Congratulations on owning such a great looking home. I would say that it is a post-war home, that has some art-deco influences. While art-deco was a style that was popular between the wars, some post-war homes (especially in regional areas) still had a few art-deco touches when they were built after the war.

I would look at some of the original internal features, such as fireplaces, cornices and door handles as a starting point to get an understanding of the style. I certainly would ignore all contemporary fashions as these will look at odds in the future in a home of this character.

Have a look at how this vendor respected the original art-deco features of this home and furnished it with a mixture of mid-century and contemporary pieces, and it all works beautifully together. If you need help then contact an expert in the area (like me!) who repects the original architecture, and who doesn't want it to follow the fickle fads of fashion. You don't want to live in a museum, and it must work for you and the home - so forget the concrete benchtops, the glary little downlights, and smothering everything in white paint!

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments - the house does have some original features in tact but has had some renovation work completed by previous owners.
My personal style preferences are modern farmhouse with some French Inspo and some eclectic - unfortunately I purchased the wrong style house to suit this but the market is very tight and there weren’t a lot of options.
I feel in love with the homely feeling this house has so what to honour that feeling.

Well modern farmhouse with some French inspo is going to feel very wrong with your house, especially as the windows are very post-war in their character. With more people starting to appreciate the mid-century and post-war styles they may be wondering what you were thinking when it comes to resale. Build on the homely feeling that you love, rather than trying to make it something else.

About the only place I'd get too far away from the period , is the kitchen . But I wouldn't go farmhouse there , just clean modern lines with some warm colour , or how about going for something that would surprise -- modern benchtops , modern tapware , a modern recreation stove and fridge , but do pastel door and drawers ( I assume you can get that in Melamine , maybe have to paint if not ? ) and period wall tiles in a light yellow with blue flowers of something like that , BUT also see if you can get some subway tiles in the same tone ?

The rest of the house , you might get away with modern doors if you don't want the period varnished ones , but varnished floors , rugs , maybe 1 feature wall each room in a 'period' style wallpaper ? I'd probably do a ceiling rose and a gold waterfall type chandalier and even that ornate plaster cornices in the hall and/or lounge , but you could mix it up with downlights in the kitchen and dining ? Depends how luxe you want to go .

I'm weird , but I have 1 similar style house , and I did it with polished floors , solid doors ( stained and varnished ) with brass hinges , but mixed it up with grape walls and grape and gold scroll wallpaper ; duck egg blue walls with blue and maroon striped wallpaper feature wall , and red leather furniture in the lounge ( sounds weird I know , but it works ! ) ; kitchen is original cabinets painted crisp white with burnt orange doors , burnt orange on 2 walls and a slightly mushroom tinged English cream on the 2 with windows .

Do what suits you !

I agree that in the living areas you should go with the style of the house but I'm not a fan of reproduction style in kitchens or bathrooms.
There is plenty of furniture which would suit your house in shops at the moment. Try and avoid large modular couches except in a modern extension and go for combination of chairs and smaller couch set in a conversation style.
