Comments (15)I'm hoping if you just measure the floor wall to wall it is the same as other end of room ie 3800mm. (I added the 3 measurements in your drawing and get 3610mm too but architraves may vary it so floor measurement is good. Just hoping you have the same width to make the space comfortable and workable. Wow you do have a large home! So for dining I think a beautiful rectangle table to suit the proportions of the room. A round one needs to be at least 1500mm diameter for six chairs and wouldn't fill the space much. That would leave 1100 ish around the table each side which is okay but may look better with say 21-2500 x 1000 rectangle which seats 8 to 10 and leaves 1400mm room around each side or less if offset for buffet unit against wall. It would probably still leave room for a couple of occasional chairs & small table for casual seating near the kitchen. One thing I harped on to my hubbie about during our reno was the "luxury of space" and you don't need to fill it up...he get's it now. What are you doing with the ceiling beams? Painting them out would help modernise the space too I think. I'm not sure about the bricks yet but would love to see a picture of the empty room. Are you doing without a kitchen during this process?...See MoreHamptons style "dream home" on the Gold Coast

The Hamptons style is definitely a style that oozes a lot of understated chic and effortless sophistication. Well done!...See MoreHouse too big, kitchen design, bathroom design etc etc
Comments (16)oklouise thanks for the ideas. We have actually really thought about the zoning. We want the two bedrooms on the southern side with a bathroom between for privacy. We also want the eastern lounge room to pop out as a dining room in that spot will waste a gorgeous view. We had a straight alfresco and thought it was all a bit hohum. I will attach the first and second drafts to see where we have come from. The first draft we had drawn was too boring for us ... Garry hated draft 2 as he thought it was too wide for solar access and didn't give cross ventilation (north to south or vv). It's only positive was the flow of west/east cross ventilation. Also the bathroom was too tucked away for guest use when we are using that nice alfresco area. We quickly scrapped all those ideas... LOL As I said, we like skillion roof lines and are planning on clerestory windows to maximise northern sun. Some raked ceilings will probably happen too (and definitely 9 foot ceilings in living areas). the mudroom/laundry will probably be incorporated into the hallway. Unlike some on this forum previously I don't object to entering through the laundry. It kind of gives a landing spot for groceries from the car on those cold days you don't want to leave the whole house open. The garage may actually be a carport to ensure we can have ventilation come through that way and to help us with budget....See MoreIs it possible to have no set style to a house exterior & interior?
Comments (10)personally I like a home that has a similar style on the inside as the outside, it just makes sense to me. In the past I thought building extensions should be similar in style as to the original, however after reading (and commenting on) Houzz posts I am now coming round to the idea of a modern extension on an older building. But having a kitchen and bathroom in different styles, that might just be to your taste and that is fine - there is nothing wrong with a building reflecting the personality of the owner!...See MoreJE C
