What's the worst uninvited guest you've ever found in your house?
Comments (133)White-tail spider in my track suit pants WHICH I WAS WEARING! I thought it was a lump of lint from the laundry, drew it out, and promptly flung it across the room once I realised... never to be seen again! How it didn't bite me and sat still to be picked up, I don't know - it must have known I wouldn't do it any harm. We lived in lots of country places, too... We were invaded by small black crickets one year, and lady bugs, another year, in your drawers, in your hair, in your pantry, in your undies... everywhere! And then the blue tongue lizard that would go in and out with our dogs via doggie door, and made itself a nest in our laundry... I gave up and left some old towels for it. Had an echidna get up into the wheel well of our car... wild brumbies in our patio... the list goes on. My husband still says that the most unwelcome visitor was his mother... I like her better than he does!...See MoreWhat was your latest home-related purchase?

Comments (22)I would go with Oklouise first plan except move the cook top and oven over between the Pantry and sink (cooking Zone) and even though the fridge would stick out further I would possibly swap the fridge and pantry to give safer easy access to the fridge from the kids space. I would also continue the cupboards on the window bench side to the left wall same as in the kitchen including wall cupboards. this would make your kitchen appear much bigger and better use of space by adding a table or movable island on lockable wheels. both of these could be pushed to the wall to allow kids space when needed. This would also add to resale value. You could also make the base cabinets in the kids space the same as the wall cabinets by using wall cabinets to do both upper and lower cabinets, this bench would be 30 instead of 60. You don't have to have upper cabinets if you would prefer a free wall. I have done this at a friends house and it looks and works great. Or you could install a wall of narrow 40/30 pantry cabinets for extra storage for kitchen and kids. Agree with your wife's choice of door profile. cheers...See MoreWhat are the alternatives to bi-fold doors?
Comments (109)Hi @Siriuskey, I don't charge as your designer would for his time so I hope my furniture and colours don't put you off. Firstly I have to tell you...noting you have drawn or suggested has put me off...in fact quite the opposite. I would not have considered an open stair case without seeing your 3D projection. We now WILL head down this direction. So kudos to you for helping me think on this. Just revive the thinking on your stairs, they do take up a lot of passage and study space, cramping it. As much as I might like to move the stairs, I am somewhat restricted for various reasons I have mentioned. I honestly dont think they take up a bunch of room and I think where they are postioned maximses the family spaces. Just looking at your own 3D model for the position of the front door it all looks great. My CAD program is a lot older than your designers but it was top end Nothing at all wrong with your program or your diagrams. They really helped us with a positive direction which our own designer didnt come up with and now agrees with. Once again I would still like you to re think your stairs, this deals with the bi fold doors (why are they glass) and the anomaly of the windows. I really cant do a lot with the stairs or the position of the wall in the corridor for the study. There are a number of considerations around loading which I cant easily combat. Making the staircase open I think really adds a lot of dimension to the space and actually makes it work. We haven't decided on what the bi-folds will look like. My wife happens to like the glass...but we haven't made any solid decisions. Don't forget the Fridge, it's very important Thank you. Yes I wont forget. :)...See More- 5 years ago
