Where is the new kitchen going?

it's still the same spot where the old one is.

we just changed the layout of the kitchen with new island and cook top facing the wall where the walk in pantry door is

the kitchen colour will be grey & white and we are putting in wooden floor for the whole area.

Without knowing the outdoor space and I gave thought where sun is either. My first thought is to using dining as tv room. Couch on the long wall as big as fits and tv opposite wall. Would u like to see tv while cooking? Dining in the central space and a relaxation zone in the family area

Hi Kate, I don't need to watch TV while cooking but it would be good to see the TV from the breakfast bar or from the lounge area?

Agree with Kate. The dining room is too small for a decent table and chairs. I would put a couple of comfy single chairs in the dining room for relaxing. Maybe a TV as well. I would put a decent 2-3 metre dining suite in the family room. As both are thoroughfares to outside, you are limited on your placement of furniture.

I agree for the TV room. That was my thought too but not sure if we want to add table and chairs there would be too crowded for the way to the backyard? also the dining table area would love to put the dining table with 8 chairs against the left wall and the right hand side wall would be a lounge area look out to the front garden (terrace)

The dining room is only 3.3 x 3, you do not have room for a table and lounge chairs plus a walkway to outside. Again, the family room is only 3.1 metres wide. This is not enough room for a dining suite and a lounge to be a comfortable space, since again it is a thoroughfare to the terrace.
Mark the size of your furniture on the floors with masking tape. Allowing for areas to pull out chairs and comfortably walk around the table, and to outside.
The family room could have a long eight seater dining table up towards the kitchen, and then maybe, two single lounge chairs in the space with all the sliding doors.

thanks dreamer for your idea. Maybe the dining area could be a study nook for the kids. One is 10 & one is 7. They already has study desk in their bedroom but no computer. The dining area could be a computer nook but then I don't know where to put the TV?

Tara, that is an excellent idea for the dining room. The ages of the children are a good age for study with parent help. It is far enough from other living areas to be a separate space, but near enough to be supervised.

Your family space is 7800mm long which is plenty of room for a eight seater dining table. Maybe 2100mm, I would allow 4000mm of space for comfortable movement of chairs and walking around table, plus allowing space for walkway from the bedrooms. This leaves 3800mm for a lounge, single chairs at the sliding door end. It is the width of the space 3100mm which is tight.

The TV can still be positioned in the old dining room with a two metre lounge or single lounge chairs. The TV could be positioned above the study desk on the wall.
The TV could also be positioned on the only wall near sliding doors in family room, but this would then require lounges to not be looking at the outside. Do you have a TV in the front room?

dreamer, that's good idea about the TV on top of the study nook. I just thought about another option to put TV on the other long wall but not sure if it will look good

I have TV in the front room at the moment but plan to move the TV into dining room when it's done.

I know it's too late, but, I think, it is a shame that the kitchen wasn't repositioned to the dining area. Then the new dining and lounging, TV area would have been a natural progression of space.
