4 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom, or 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms (ensuite)?
Comments (15)We're building 4x3.5 Two with ensuite and the others with a jack and Jill. Life has changed unfortunately and now everyone in the household works, kids stay at home longer and ageing parents sometimes move in for care. At the moment we have a 3 x 1 and really the only thing we really want for is a second toilet, which growing up we had because we had the one out the back with the red backs....See MoreKitchen, bathroom & laundry - Do they need the same colour scheme?
Comments (18)@jmm1837, My appologies firstly to the author for being off topic. One house I lived in didn't have plaster anywhere, just pressboard for walls, the stuff notice boards are made from, so we wall papered as paint soaked in by the bucket load. then lived in a caravan and now a little relocatable cottage, a glorified caravan without wheels I say but now hubby and I are building our dream home, I have no decor or design education and have simply done my best with the plan and now the build. Great advice about making the home, warm, comfortable etc...and I'm doing what I want and not following trends BUT unfortunately at times I am truly paralized by indicision, too many choices of everything from interior colours to simple door handles and when I put my head down to sleep, my mind goes into overdrive, sleeping at times only a few hours a night ha-ha Still enjoying the process but it isn't that simple to follow your suggestions!!! I'm sure as the home progresses, with less decisions to make, it will become easier....See MoreOne or two bathrooms in a new build??
Comments (23)We built about ten years ago. If you've ever read Susan Susanka's books about the "not so big house" concept, that's where we were coming from. The attention went into the efficient design of the house in relation to topography and orientation, and into the quality of fittings. We didn't want to have rooms we didn't use. So, 165 sq m, 3 bedrooms (one became the study), a small but very efficient g- shaped kitchen, open living/dining. We did have two bathrooms - one en suite, the other a combined bathroom /laundry - but while both had showers, neither had a tub. Bathrooms without tubs aren't very marketable to families with young kids, admittedly, but older folk often prefer showers. I do yhink having only one bathroom is problematic, but sticking with 3 beds, no study, isn't. We have an aging population looking for smaller, better houses....See MoreBathroom layout for new build - Please help!
Comments (32)rhyzar perhaps send through a larger floor plan please so this all can be understood/analysed in context? how far along is the project? Good ideas here however it's assuming capacity for changing/taking over passage/access to what appears to be leading down another passage at the top of the page? Or am I missing something? Another way to do this without completely taking over passage space is to flip the powder over to the external wall which would enable natural light into it. I'd also vote for a double basin set-up. Attached sketch of this option/idea if space is restricted - dashed line shows walls of the plan you sent Good luck! PD...See Morewendalls
