Could anybody tell me what type and colour of timber floor this is?
For some reason the photo did not appear in my comments above.
Client has a blackbut floor that looks like that.
I agree, it looks like Blackbutt tongue and groove timber, like I had in a house I once owned. Blackbutt is one of the hardest wearing timbers. The photo shows how it looked when the house was on the market for sale. It had not been re-sanded or re-polished since it was built 16 years prior. It still looked as good as new.
The timber looks lighter than in your photo as all the lights were on when my photo was taken.
If your house was built earlier, it could be one of the gum species, eg spotted gum.
Would timber floors be too much with timber ceilings ?

Thank you both so much. Might be a silly question but if I sand the boards back can I stain them a different colour? I would prefer less red
I think you can stain it a different colour but you should discuss this with a tradesperson who does this for a living.
It’s hard to tell from the pic but they don’t look like real floorboards. If they are a floating floor it may be less $ and time to replace them altogether.
