I would appreciate some ideas. This is our large living/family/cosy area.

great view to big backyard, facing west ,lots of afternoon light.

we have been using this large 8 seater L shape lounge suite with two recliners each end for more than 10 years.

now we would like some changes but not sure if we should go with L shape again or not.

We enjoyed this suite, enough room for 4 adults to stretch and relax while watching movie and weekend afternoon naps sometimes :)

any ideas please. thanks in advance.

Sorry I’m a little confused by plan. Can you add your couch and tv and mark north point and add photo from other direction

Hi Zoe, Congratulations to you both on your 1st home purchase. Small designer furniture is what comes to mind. 2 seater sofa, lamp table, floor rug, small coffee table and a TV entertainment unit that fits the common wall at the kitchen end. Light coloured furniture & decor and the clever use of wall lighting will help make the room seem larger. The good thing is you can spend up big on the small amount of things you need to buy. Hi Greer, I am liking the suggestions of plants and hanging photos / frames. If you wanted to get some matching furniture you can use our website to create custom matching tables including perhaps a coffee table with some matching end / lamp tables and a matching sideboard / console. Tsk tsk... Art at the least is something which resonates with you, for any reason, great Art is a bit different..... Buy a prepared canvas and some colours you like and have at it. Then hang it up on the wall.... I would suggest a large horizontal canvas close to the width of the sofa for that wall.

Hi Lindsey, I also agree with the comments regarding adding indoor plants to fill the gaps on either side of the TV. Some great, low-maintenance indoor plants are the Fiddle Leaf Fig, Monstera (also known as Swiss Cheese Plant) and Snake Plant (Mother-In-Law's Tongue). They're all beautiful plants and very ease to take care of. Another option would be to have some open shelving on either side, similar to the one we have used in this Living Room styling below. This could work really well, especially if you have limited storage for some bits and pieces you would like on display. A bonus is that including taller items like this will create a sense of balance in the room, and accentuate the height of your wall which will create an illusion of taller ceilings. Hello Wish69.

A big couch is great for movie watching but it really eats up you space. I'm sure that is one of the reasons you're seeking advice now. With a good view of the back garden a couch would most likely be turned away from the view which is unfortunate. The western sun is also a concern for heat gain & glare on the television. Normally I try to position the room to view the tele and the garden. Typically this would mean a wall for the tele and big windows or doors on either side of it. This way you can look at the garden by day, not get glare on the tele if you are watching at daytime and view the tv at night. Not sure it this helps but would be glad to help if I had more photos and a scaled layout. Best Regards
