Building a Home Exterior

Exterior color choice help

We are building our first home, the second picture is the inspiration we took for our house design, however we want to go for dark grey concrete tiles for roof, can you suggest exterior colour choices, any ideas, would be great help. Thank you

I am assuming when you say dark grey concrete roof tiles , they are similar tones to the charcoal pillar in that Photo 2 ?

I'd go light wall colours , similar to the low wall in Pic 2 . The patchy look on their walls is too trendy IMO , and will look stupid in 5 years , but I do like almost all the rest . I'd 'copy' their dark garage door , and are you doing a glass door too , or wooden ? I quite light a honey coloured varnished wooden door , or bright warm colours like red , orange or yellow , but theres nothing wrong with the glass .

I had to drive across town a couple of hours ago , and saw a brand new ( not yet completed ) place similar to Pic 2 , it was light coloured walls , with dark doors and dark vertical champfered wooden boards too ( imagine that above and below that narrow window ) but what really stood out to me -- they had gone quite a bright orange coloursteel roof and gutters ! I loved it !

Thanks for the suggestions, yes roof colour almost simar to that charcoal pillar , not sure if thats gonna look good. the first two pillars gonna have tiles on them just like pic 2. Its a blackish brown glass garage door in pic 2. Thats expensive we are thinking about blackish brown panel garage door or a timber look. Ideas on this please. Also considering a door like this

Hi, I like the overall concept of the darkish grey, it suits the home. I am a colour consultant and have been working with the Dulux range for 17 years and you are on the right track with the Guild Grey. The Dulux Signature will give you a dark blue house. Another option if Simone Weil which is just a bit lighter than the Guild Grey, if you find that one too dark. Sample pots and A4 brush outs onto white cardboard are the best way to decide, because computer programs give an overall impression of the "look" but are not accurate with colour choices, you can't beat the human eye. Has anyone used Colorbond DUNE as their exterior colour? Good choice?

We used dune for our fascia, Windows and verandah posts with woodland grey gutter and roof. I have to say I have been a little disappointed with it as once it got a bit dusty it didn't seem to have enough contrast anymore. Our house is red brick and I wish now I had have gone more in the white direction.

Hi Hamish, these planters are very cool! Great potential here. - from what I can see; your home has brown and red tones, it depends on the look you are trying to achieve - however if you were aiming to integrate these planters into the existing colour pallet I would go for something with orange, brown, or red undertones - I know orange sounds frightening! Bare in mind that colours look very different when under direct sunlight, or dark shadows cast by trees etc.. Before painting it's always wise to do a test on a piece of thick paper or cardboard; see how it looks in morning light, afternoon sun, dim light at dusk, and so on... What is the light like at your place? If your home doesn't get much sun I would go for a lighter colour (lighter greys with brown undertones) to bounce off the sunlight that does reach it. A darker colour (browns, oranges) would add impact, a focal point, and would boast the greenery, as the natural colours from your plants would be intensified against a darker backdrop. I reckon you are on the right track , or think like me anyway haha .

Lighter coloured walls ( offwhite , NOT beige or grey IMO ) with charcoal tiles and charcoal highlights is great . And as far as the entrance door and garage door , stick with the charcoal theme OR go a nice natural wood -- match the two would be best .

It may be too late , but I actually think that , as you are having that narrower window too , if you carried the same theme ( charcoal or natural wood ) in that 600mm or whatever space above and below the window , it would add to the overall look too !
