Help with a big ugly blank wall!

Hi everyone! I try my best but I might be a little bit of a beginner when it comes to interior design.
I have two big blank walls of nothing in my entryway to my home and I don’t know what to add!
We have a built in cupboard in dark brown and I find the entryway a little dark.

Any suggestions for what to put on the walls? One big decoration? Family photos?

I love the modern coastal look if that helps with inspiration.

I would add a large mirror above your cupboard, Kmart have an 80cm one for $30 , a large bright piece of art, or put your family photos into identical frames for a stylish look, add a basket for shoes etc.declutter top of cupboard and add a few precious pieces, a gorgeous rug would look beautiful also.

As a minimalist I would forego all plants, put in a low wall and use slumped glass or preferably glass block. This would let in the light and also make a cosy seating area in winter. I've found glass block to be a wonderful insulator on a west facing wall - warm in winter, but keeps out summer heat too. This would also extend your living area, keep out flies and mozzies, and prevent you seeing that awful roof next door. You could also take the shadecloth off the windows leading on to that deck, which would be a bonus. I'm not a fan of shadecloth, and would always look for an alternative solution

I have a similar issue, although we only have 2.0m between our house and the timber fence. you are super-patient!!! :) :) thank you :) I'm so sorry but I do actually have a couple MORE thoughts!! argh! there are just so many different options.... and this is a bit of an all consuming puzzle to try to solve. here they are: 1) study could become main bathroom - leaving new Bed 4 as per plan since it is bigger & a better size for guests. in this option, some area could be stolen from the study to boost ensuite size - even if it just made the ensuite 1 full metre. Ideally not requiring study window to change. 2) WC could potentially be separate either within this space OR at the back of the old kitchen (allowing for the remaining, longish hall wall to be shorter again) oklouise you may think some of these ideas are not very workable & I'd be so glad for your feedback & comment (and anyone else's comments as well), it's really so incredibly helpful - unbelievably helpful - to have everyone's input. i'd love recommendations on which ideas & options might work best for that balance between function & budget

I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. BTW I love the idea of hanging plants (though watering them might be a pain), I love the idea of a dramatic feature pendant and I also love the idea of the rug, all will soften or harmonise the drama. www.billyhoostudio.com

Large mirror over bench with your coastal scene opposite in a large print. A tall lamp at right end of bench with sensor. Then Cut out some paper same size as your photo frames then blue tac to wall in different groupings to see what balances with the mirror to the left.

A single large artwork opposites a mirror above the built ins certainly works. Alternatively, if you need the space to work a little harder, place coat hooks along the empty wall and an artwork above the built ins.

As above - mirrors and artwork and perhaps even a plant. These are also SO reasonably priced and SUPER easy to install. Its like having a skylight but they aren't an actual skylight. Its a led light that is solar powered and it "mimics" the outdoor weather. So if the sun goes behind a cloud, it will dull a little so it looks super real. My parents have just moved into a house and they have two and it took us 3 months before we realised they werent an actual skylight!

You could paint the dark wood cabinet the same/similar colour to the wall so that it becomes part of the background. Adding a light wooden top would give that coastal feel. Bunnings has tassie oak panels that you could have cut to fit the top.
