Perhaps consider painting the room a medium to dark colour and choose something with some depth and vibrancy. This will embrace the rooms size, bring focus to the bedding and create a change of mood entering the room that is one of rest. It will also amplify shadows and light from bedside tables to create more interest.

I have a small master as well. I choose s lightweight white metal bedframe so that it sits lightly in the room.

Utilise the high ceilings and install a bed head with vertical storage.
Take away the bedside tables. Get luxury doona and cushions, to distract, away from the size of the room, to the bedding.

A feature light fitting that throws a pattern on the ceiling would draw people’s eye upwards.

Will post photo tomorrow. It doesn't feel small when sleeping due to high ceiling but eye level has a different feeling.

Me Me unfortunately our bed head is black which suited our other place and we have storage under bed (which we need).

Probably a silly question , but what size are the other bedrooms ?

And I assume altering walls is out of the question , or moving 'down' to a double bed ?

Personally , I doubt colours make too much difference when you have 50cm or whatever around your bed -- it will always look cramped .Likewise , a luxury cover will look wonderful and fluffy , but make the room look even more crowded .

- Wall mounted bedside tables. The space under the tables will make the room look bigger. Keep the top of these uncluttered with 1-2 small items at the most.

- Instead of table lamps, put small pendant lights hanging from the ceiling on each side of the bed. This will highlight the vertical space in the room.

- Get a new bed that has storage underneath it and is as low to the floor as possible with a simple, non-bulky bedhead. Keep bed linen simple. If you didn't need hidden storage underneath, a metal bedframe would work well visually as you can see through the bars.

- I'm a bit unsure about this suggestion but a slim and long rectangular mirror on the wall behind the bed may also give the impression of more space due to reflecting light.
