Furniture design and placement help please!
Comments (1)Hi, A good way to start is to draw a scaled floor plan of the space. When you see furniture that you like, you can then cut out; also to the same scale, the basic dimensions. This will make it easier to assess the foot traffic around the room and furniture layout. You may find a modular to big and limiting to layout. Maybe a sofa with 2 accent chairs (not necessarily matching) gives more possibilities. Also consider which direction the room is facing and what light it receives, this may also help with layout in terms of the TV, i.e will the sun shine making it hard to see the screen. Hope that helps....See MoreNeed advice on paint colours and placement of furniture
Comments (4)@girlguides, I believe that is how the current owner has their furniture. LCS, did you mean to include pic of house plan? If your furniture is lighter neutrals like in the houzz photo examples, an idea might be to paint the wainscotting in a grey perhaps which would help balance the redness in the floors. A neutral that will work well with other neutrals. The lighter colour furniture would then "lift" the look. You could do then do the walls in a lighter colour and keep doors and windows white....See MoreFurniture placement advice
Comments (6)It is a tough layout to work with - this might sound unusual & I'm not sure whether it would work 100%, but if you create a 'freestanding wall' with your bookshelf (or perhaps get a new one in white), with a low entertainment unit next to it, then shift the lounge against the long wall, you could possibly create a room rather than a space that probably feels like a corridor. Here's a very quick scribble to show you what I mean...See MoreI Would Love Help With Furniture Placement & If I should Buy A Couch
Comments (5)From what you have said, I think smaller separate pieces such as couch and chair(s) rather than a large sectional is likely to work better in the space and still allow for traffic flow. However, if you still have lots to do then don't rush to make large purchases. In the meantime, if your current sectional looks better pulled away from the wall a bit, then perhaps you could rotate the side table so that the long side runs parallel with the sofa arm instead of the wall. Would that help to stop it blocking the doorway and resolve the 'not quite right' placement?...See More- 4 years ago
