Need help choosing my floorboards!
Comments (22)I'm always surprised whenever I read discussion threads on the pros/cons of timber vs engineered or timber-look products is that I seem to be the only one who cares about the sound, not just the aesthetics. I grew up in very old houses and for me, that sound as you walk along a real timber floor is majestic and cannot be replicated by other products that to, seem to all sound like fingernails on a black board in comparison (okay not really, but it evokes the same reaction in me as does walking on lino). So, for that awesome sound of "real" timber and for longevity's sake, authenticity's sake, and all the reasons above I say option 2. Of course, budget is also important and I totally understand the width argument too....See MoreFloorboards and tiling, getting the flow right..
Comments (9)Hi Fivedock If you're using a tile that looks like timber I think you would be best using the same tile from the front entry throughout. However if you used a tile that looked like stone or concrete in the kitchen/ back area for example, you could possibly use another that looked like timber in the front entry/ living room with fireplace. Or vice versa. This only works because you have a contrast between stone and timber and there's a reasonable demarcation between the living room with the fireplace and the back area. It looks terrible if you have two different timber tiles or two different stone tiles....See MoreFloorboards
Comments (9)pazza_italiana78, the is some logic to have darker floors and lighter furniture, in fact I prefer a darker floor, be it tile, timber or carpet. As for furniture against the floor, very hard to make a call on this without seeing the items together or at least samples together in the flesh. I recall vividly when choosing a Terrazzo for a retail shop in the office looking at the samples, I choose a lighter sample with a finer aggregate, once on site with the sample side by side with the external paver, I almost instantly change that for a darker sample with a larger aggregate. I was sure that it was not the way to go in the office. It is made difficult with the red couch also, as my hunch would be that it would be better on a lighter timber floor to avoid the heaviness of both a darker red on a darker timber floor. This of cause is only a personal choice, you might be looking for this. I can only project my opinions on your situation without talking through a full brief and understanding your preferences. Keep this in mind when you receive advice from a forum like this as I am sure you will....See MorePlease help me decide on what colour for my bathroom vanity!
Comments (6)Thanks everyone. Nik Star I did get some colour swatches for navy, but then didn't have the courage to go ahead. Think I will have to just be content with some navy towels....See Morebigreader
