Splashback window detail

Looking for some advice from the experts here.
I'm building my first home from a custom home builder..
The builder has cut 1c internal brick to create a cavity for the benchtop to slide in under the window sill.
The benchtop is 20mm, which leaves the rest of the cavity unfilled (without any flashing) only the melamine cabinet against it.
He is saying this is structurally sound, and there will be no issues with the moisture or termites.
He is also saying that this is an industry standard. Please advise if this is the correct detail?
Please also advise if there exist a BCA compliant detail for this.
