Suggested spacing is between 600-800mm from edge of table - so that chairs remain in the rug when being used/pulled out to use. With this in mind, and the close proximity to the wall you may even consider a square rug. Add diameter plus 2x600 to get correct size. Check www.therugest.com/Panama as an option. Cheers Richard

Thank you very much for your advice. I like your thinking and can develop my planting with your suggestions in mind. Confirming what type of pot colour has been a big plus in my search. I have planted some nasturtiums for a bit of summer colour, and hope the Shasta Daisies will also give a bit of show. It is in a hot dry place enduring Queensland 35-40C in summer, so the pretties, bulbs, azelias etc are all in winter/spring here, and summer is over to the more hardies. I take your point about the bare time between flowering, and as it is in the entrance to my yard, I am trying to make it inviting all year round. Much appreciate your advice Thanks I

Why do you want raised planters? Changing sites is unsustainable practice. The raised walls will be foreign to the site; if concrete or rendered, they are the most unsustainable of all. You will also need to import soil which also has a lot of problems associated with its use. A garden will always look best retaining the original levels. Dont copy bad design, because these bad designs very often break down after a few years. I've been in the industry too long and watched the errors of others, only to see other people copying these flawed efforts.
