Master/WIR/Ensuite dilemma?
I want to change the the current media/study to a Master/WIR and Ensuite. I have been playing with this for months and cant come up with anything that works. Would like to have a large bedroom/retreat as we have many visitors by relocating the study stud wall to the dogleg and move the existing doors to media room into the hallway rather than looking straight into the living room. The expanded study space would then become a WIR and ensuite. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Comments (12)reluctant to lose the convenience of outside access to a toilet my suggestion sacrifices a little space off the lounge and bedroom to keep the extra toilet and use the original laundry space for a bigger ensuite with separate toilet and double vanities, the new extension makes a more spacious wiw with only standard doorway openings to the new rooms but the ideal outside door for the laundry will depend on the location of the drying area and you may decide that a western door or no outside door (and walk through the verandah?) could both add more counter space to the laundry and, much as i like the gable roof for the extension, it would be interesting to obtain a comparative quote for a simple skillion roof (and raked ceilings for the new laundry and wiw) that may save a lot of extra roof structure that doesn't add anything to the inside of the new rooms or streetscape and could be much cheaper.....See MoreMaster Bedroom, Ensuite, WIR layout
Comments (2)This is my bedroom/ensuite set up. Overall our rectangle is 3960 x 8030. this concept with WIR first then ensuite may work. However your bedroom size may have to be reduced. The measurements of spaces are along the top of plan. Comments (12)Thank you for your feedback. I agree with your comment on the main bathroom. That layout is from the original 1984 house build, so it's something I'd like to address, but I don't quite have a vision of how to get around that yet. The second living area you mention was a discussion point during design, but we felt gaining the extra bedroom, robe and bathroom had higher importance. Our thought process was that bedroom 3 could always be opened up off the main entrance and converted to a small second t'v room if we needed it (3.4m x 3.1m). We also converted a 6m x 6m garage to a living area with tiled floor, insulated walls, air con, couch and t.v etc, so having that space swayed the decision to go with an extra bedroom and bathroom....See MoreMaster bedroom, ensuite and WIR robe ideas
Comments (38)What is the wall going out from the laundry, is there another room? Going up into the roof space is a great way to add extra room/s if the pitch is high enough, perhaps your son inlaw could get up there with a tape. We did this some years ago in our Federation house and ended up with 2 bedrooms with a study break out area across the end of both rooms which had QBs. Our builder pre ordered the stairs which were installed in one piece, this was quick and once the stairs were in place they could then proceed to fit out the space. Your wide passage could be where these stairs would fit....See More

Dreamer is correct it is 6200 x 6440. This new suite is for the owner's permanent occupation so lots of robe space required!
The current master which is much small will then become the guest suite. The house is U shaped around the pool paving so you can just see in the bottom pic that the new master is directly across the pool from the new one.Only needs to have a shower as there is a bath in the other bathroom. I have marked location of pool and North on new pic.
Obviously the whole house is being renovated but I am so stuck on the floor plan for the new master so many thanks to you both for your suggestions

passy1. I missed your comment,
This new space is the new master and not a living space, the ensuite can have highlight windows to allow for northern light and extra ventilation, it's up to you. I have used double cavity sliders between it and the bedroom to allow you to open up the two spaces, light and ventilation
Window in bedroom, going by the agents drawing there are already windows next to the sliding doors, not that it matters, sliding doors can be locked leaving a small opening for ventilation with the screen drawn across, even without that there is already plenty of ventilation and light coming via the ensuite
I did think to open the ensuite to the pool even though you said that there's already another bath I thought you might just like a bath in the ensuite which could have sheers and or split timber shutters to give privacy from the pool.
This second flooplan shows my second option with access between the pool and ensuite without the tub.
