Building a Home Renovating Design Dilemma

Hi all, our proposed theatre Room is 4 m long x 3.7 wide. Is this a decent size? Also how would you lay it out, we need an entry door coming through garage which will cut into some of the theatre. Please help. Mudroom is on other side as we are transforming the small bedroom into mudroom and housing a staircase. Thank you.

Couch along the back at a higher level and a chair in front on each side creating u shape.

Hi, Are you going to be concerned about noise attenuation coming from the games / home theatre room to the rest of the house? As solid core doors will work better than hollow core when closed at reducing the sound transmission. Sealing the door frames and adding ceiling baffles will help further but would need to be considered at the design stage not as an after thought. The solid doors by themselves over hollow doors may drop the STC rating by 6 to 8dB which is noticeable. Andrew

how many people do you expect to need to seat in the movie room on a regular basis? it would be a shame to take space away from more regularly used rooms for the sake of an extra seat in the movie room for only rare or occasional use.. and keep in mind that a rear seat could be wall to wall at 3.1 and the seat in front could be up to 2.4 wide and still allow access and seating for a total of about 10 very friendly or slender adults and/or kids

Hey :) door was gonna be in the middle of the room but builder said to have it in the corner to allow more space for seating - haven’t decide on widows yet (happy to have ideas here too 😊) but I’m considering a small window say 1.2 high by 1.5 ish wide … as we want the room dark and don’t want the window to interfere with seating space .. thanks for replaying :)

That looks like the step width is going to be about 60cm which is quite narrow and not much more between the back of one sofa and the front of the other. It’s a tight fit. Are those real sofa sizes? And you’re going to have to limit your TV size to fit diagonally. It’s a bit cramped.

Do you really need the raised section? They really are only needed for two rows of seating and you don’t have room. A large comfy u shaped modular will do the job, and give the room flexibility for future.

a raised floor will make the room very cramped as there would need to be space for seating plus a walking path then a step..as bigreader says it will be much better with a comfy couch ..how many people do you need to seat and why does there need to be space taken out for the garage entry..is there no alternative??..a plan of the whole house would help understand the floorplan better

thank you. will post whole floor plan once I receive. the original pic wasn't a raised floor, it's a recessed ceiling. 😉
