Can laminated cabinetry include glass?

Hi Everyone

i had read mixed opinions on this due to laminated cabinetry needing the edging strip.

Can you have laminated cabinet doors with glass inserted?

Do the 4 edges where the glass slots in also need the laminate edging or will they be raw?

Does this make it more expensive ?

Thank you everyone, your thoughtful advice was very welcome. I'm attaching a photo as its all finished. I selected Olive Reserve for the splash back and painted the wall above it the same colour. As its a big room with lots of light and a large window it doesn't dominate. The glass is so easy to keep clean and I love the way it reflects the garden and light. Have to say though some people are stunned into silence when they see it, but as the cupboards and bench tops are quite bland I knew something bright was needed

Hi Karl, Blum do not make kitchens as you say but their designs include drawer carcasses where you can take your pick of a range of drawer fronts, not sure if this extends to doors. Issue for my glass want is their Aus range of fronts doesn't include the glass they offer in Europe. Im aware of the range of aluminium frames available but I'm after frameless, the look of frameless lightly frosted glass with a painted backing is pretty amazing, to my preference. I've chosen to use a glazier who does Splashbacks and glue thin hardened glass fronts onto precut doors. Seems like the attention needs to be laid to making sure the silicone and double sided tape don't react with the paint that would result in read-through, and laying the doors flat for adhesive curing

The prices sound fair especially considering that they include installation. Viridian have a variety of glass types that are specifically designed to deal with acoustic issues. Anything will be better than 4mm float glass. A reputable window manufacturer will be able to give you great advice on glass selection, if they can't find another one! If you really want to eliminate noise you would end up with 2 panes of glass about 100mm apart but it is unlikely you need to go that far (it is an uncommon solution).

painted glass will be a perfect solution for your dilemma...my parents couldn't afford a solid bathroom door and solved the problem by painting a glass door with a dainty pattern by dabbing the brush rather than using sweeping strokes...paint lasted for many years and never needed redoing and i think a simple couple of coats to cover any missed spots will give an excellent result without any extra preparation than the usual wash and dry the surface and protect against drips

@malcolm thankyou very much for replying

i could only find examples of the thermolaminated /vinyl wrap with glass - and i'm lead to believe this isnt as robust as laminate ?

Hi, an actual Kitchen Manufacturer that is a Cabinetmaker local to you would be able to make you Glass Panel doors from Laminate Panel.

Laminate Panels and Vinyl Wrap Panels each have their place in the market and each have their own pro's and con's, it just depends on what you are doing and what it is you need. I suggest you have a talk with a local Kitchen Manufacturer, they should be able to help you sort out what is best for your situation as well as being able to make what you need.
