Ideas needed for my entry hallway
Comments (3)How wide is your entrance way? Mine is 122cm and I have a 40 cm wide console table that works. An indoor plant or some sculpture each side of the table reduces the starkness of it too. Otherwise some floating shelves is good to decorate - just be warned, people (especially husbands) do have a habit of throwing keys, mail, newspapers, etc. in this area. I would not consider the darker wall, while it looks great and makes a fabulous impact statement, your bright and cheerful entry is far more liveable on a daily basis. Art to me is the best answer, search 'arranging wall art' on Houzz and you will get hundreds of ideas. You can use paintings or photos, just choose your theme and colour choice. Black and white can look stunning too and as you will see from Houzz photos an eclectic mix works as well. One idea I picked up was painting the frames in a solid colour - I project I hope to work on this year. Comments (15)Hi Martea, I agree with Dohraime, an open bookcase would help create an entrance way and provide some storage that appears to be much needed from the floor plans. You asked about dimensions, I would personally make sure that the minimum clear space between the staircase and end of the book shelf is a minimum of 1200mm, but at the absolute minimum, 1000mm (1 metre) clear space is needed; thus it should be between 1200mm and 1500mm in length and the height should preferably match the head of your windows so approximately 2100mm. Depending upon the dimensions of your existing 3-seater sofa, I agree that you could back this onto the open bookcase. However, to ensure the best look, the sofa should end when the bookshelf does. As you can see from the diagram I have included, you could fit 2 arm-chairs and a coffee table in, however care will need to be taken to enure you have enough space to walk comfortably around the pieces of furniture. Try to search for a narrow coffee table. Given that you have replaced the curtains with shutters, you could place the television and console in front. This is not ideal in regards to lighting, but the space is constrained. I would also include a large rug (as depicted) for the living space so as to clearly define it. It could be approximately 3 x 1.8 m. This rug could be something bright and colourful given the muted colour scheme you have so far used. A bold pattern would also work. In regards to the dining area, it is possible to also fit a buffet in the space, and would again provide more storage. Something I noticed, and I am not sure it is within your budget, but the dividing wall around the staircase at the entrance is very dark and interrupts the clean lines you are going for. I would suggest if possible to remove it and replace with a glass balustrade. This would open up the space more and help to bring more light into this space. I hope this has been of help. Comments (20)there are way too many colours going on here. Your home is a traditional style and yes the cream and green are traditional colours with the reddish brick however why did you put grey around the windows??also you have red scollops above the grey and it doesn't do the house justice. What colour was there before you painted the grey?? considering grey is a more modern colour I think you were attempting to modernise the externals. in saying that the roof would have been better to paint charcoal the cream in white and then the grey and then the driveway would be done in a grey stain. but if you leave it the way it is and cover the red scolloping above the windows the same grey and the bricks below the windows near the ground grey as well then get the drive way restained to the reddish colour of the bricks on the house and then it would blend more and look inviting....See MoreWhat to do with our very wide hallway
Comments (21)Thanks Lockmac, looks like you have master and en-suite before living room so prob a good 5 metres of hall or more at 1.8 wide before you meet living room. That is a great greeting space. You can then narrow to 1.5 outside living room. The 300 mm would be better used in that room than hall, the walls u circled for me. You should also add doors, perhaps large glass sliding door, to the living room as I note it has a tv and sound travels. My biggest regret is not having a door on my living room of the family/kitchen due to noise issue and sadly can’t add one due to several constraints. Thankfully I did add doors to hallway leading to bedrooms both for privacy and noise control....See MoreC P
