Outdoor Kitchen During Covid - Before & After

Due to the lockdown with Covid the family had had to cancel their Queensland holiday, which meant some extra money to spend on renovating!

Our clients wanted to update their outdoor barbecue to a more functioning outdoor family kitchen & to extend their living space. Their teenage son had become very interested in cooking especially pizzas, during the lockdown.

The brief was to design a whizbang outdoor kitchen with a wood-fire pizza oven, new barbecue, wide functional benchtops, and storage to extend their family outdoor lifestyle space during the lockdown.

I drew up suitable plans, recommended finishes & helped project manage the build.

We selected a Neolith porcelain benchtop in Estatuario that not only looks fabulous but could withstand hot pots & plates, super easy to clean & maintain.

The existing height of the shutters were raised to allow for a decent splashback. For the joinery, we chose a rustic outdoor look, a charred face fluted timber cladding. We allowed for ample outdoor storage and a stylish cavity to feature the wood stack. Dimmers were added to create more ambiance at night along with new outdoor wall lights for highlighting cooking.

Together with the teenage son on board we did quite a lot of research on the pizza oven options & settled on an Australian custom made Zesti. The Dome enables the oven to hold temperatures for up to 10 hours making it perfect for cooking the best pizzas. We chose a BBQ that would cope with the Sydney coastal climate & be rust-resistant.

Needless to say: the teenage son has become a master at gourmet Italian pizzas.
