Hi there, When selecting a flooring material, you need to consider intended use. A ceramic wall tile will absorb (0.5% or higher) much more water than a porcelain floor tile (under 0.5%), and as such, should not be used on a bathroom floor. Wall tiles are softer and less dense than floor tiles, wear easier and are not designed for foot traffic. Floor tiles may be used on walls, but wall tiles should not be used on floors. In regards to slip resistance, it depends on intended use. If the project is a residential floor, than it is the decision of the home owner if they wish to use a slip resistant product or not. Australian Standards apply for commercial projects (please contact us for more information if this is the case). I would suggest you contact your supplier as they should be able to inform you of that specific tiles use and performance in a bathroom setting (I won't speak on behalf of your supplier). if the budget allows for it, porcelain tiles are my recommendation. They look better, have smaller grout lines, can get them to look like any modern stone, like marble, granite, travertine or even available in wood look slats. My hot tip is the less grout the better, which means the smaller the tile the more grout lines, stay away from mosaic on the floor, I've seen too often these being ripped out because the grout dates and ages from soap scum etc. After seeing grey, black and various colours on floors, I would always go with white on the floor, easy to keep clean and no fading of the tile profile. Anton that is really great advice, you've exceeded the explanation on the seller's websites and also you've provided a deeper understanding of the materials. What you say makes perfect sense, and it sounds like you have much experience with these tiles. I like the idea of applying wax over a sealer, this makes sense to me. Anton, would it just be a standard floorwax, such as this one for example (based on beeswax). Hi Liz, I understand your concern about waterproofing. I guess it depends on who does it. I'm extremely thorough. The last time I waterproofed I read every piece of technical information from the suppliers. When I went to order the materials, I asked for things that even the suppliers did not know was in the recommended procedure. I'd warrant my own detailed waterproofing over some tradie in a rush to get to the next job. Not saying they are all like that, but I value and trust my own approach as well. In terms of a certificate, a workaround for a through DIY job is to take detailed photos on installation, similar to what a Building Certifier would be looking for on inspection (not that we can rely on Building Certifiers nowadays either)!!!! My point is that a certificate does not necessarily guarantee a thorough job. Just ask the apartment owners at Mascot..... PS Liz good point on the visibility of a clear 50mm threshold, versus a barely visible one where the toe can scuff...
