Ethanol vs gas vs electric fireplace
Comments (2)Hi Taggy, Sorry it appears no one replied to your question. But your question came up when I asked about ethanol vs. electric fireplaces. I'm wondering: 1) which type of fireplace did you choose? 2) have you been pleased with decision and why? 3) anything you'd do differently if you were doing it again?...See MoreGas or slow combustion wood heater
Comments (5)buying wood cost us at least twice the price of gas just for space heating and then we had to transport and find undercover space (away from the house because of the risk of white ants) for a pile about 2m x 2m for the season and then regularly clean out the flue and the heater but it depends on your wood supply and if you have access to natural gas or LPG.. Gas heaters and wood heaters seem to have a similar price tag but in a cold climate if i had the time to look after a wood heater i would choose the most efficient wood burning combustion stove for cooking, hot water and heating and have an electric stove, gas log fire and solar hot water and electricity to subsidise the power bills when i can't be bothered with wood or supply is interrupted...enjoy your new home...See MoreRefrigerated heating & cooling vs gas ducted heating & add on cooling
Comments (13)There's a move away from gas to the extent that new suburbs where I live are not even being provided with gas mains. Evap cooling when we researched some time back required some windows open and I remember people complaining about that during last summer's smoke. Regardless of which systems you choose, I could not agree more with oklouise, start with good solar passive design and insulation, that's the most efficient way of reducing the reliance on and cost of heating and cooling systems....See MoreSpace Heating an Art Deco House: Flued Gas vs Electric vs Aircon
Comments (6)I have upgraded floor grills in aged bronze that work with the floor boards and are very unobtrusive. I would say that they are the most aesthetically pleasing option. For atmosphere you may be able to add an electric log-look fire to one of the fireplaces. Their appearance has improved dramatically over the last few years. I have a real log combustion fire in my fireplace. It is absolutely lovely to have on a winters day but does come with maintenance and is not practical for everyday use....See MoreNancy Pham
