Hi Carl, you are right about the possibility of hazardous material but unfortunately our budget just doesn't extend to replacing them (at this stage). We have a few more pressing issues to deal with first (leaky sunroom roof, subfloor ventilation system not ideal, drainage problems in the yard) so cosmetics come last. However, I didn't think of replacing the doors or altering them so that's good news. They are actually handmade ( by their old neighbour who was a carpenter) so I am hoping that they're actual timber and not particle board. I know the two in the other rooms are (I'll upload a photo when I take one, they're quite beautiful) but this one looks like maybe it was added in at a later time and maybe not made by the guy next door. I'll have to think more on it. Hard when we haven't moved in yet - I'm just going on photos at the moment! The memory nook is a lovely idea. My daughter would love it. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I also like the idea of using the space between it and the wall.

Generally the inside of a cabinet is white - the internal cabinet or carcass material is made from 16mm white melamine particleboard board. This is a less expensive material than laminate, but you can also get this in black and is perfect for a WIR where you might want to keep costs down. Combine it with a timber laminate as a feature, and a mirror for light reflection and it will look and function wonderfully.

Lovely colours ect. But my question is why is we read article after article on kitchen designs with advice from designers stating never to put a dishwasher in a corner as it is not practical. Articles always state that it should never block access to another cupboard and if possible access from both sides. First thing I noticed in the picture was the dishwasher. As an owner I would not be happy with this design by a professional. But this is just my opinion

I can't see any red haha ! Each to their own , but it makes me keen to carry on being my own designer . The kitchen I would have done with a black island , and red glass shades , or orange or teal or whatever matches the chairs and art in the dining room , at the very least . Some colour basically , and appliances to match on the bench . And more colour/bling in the splashback too . Just 1 small example that shows we are all different .
