when you find the builders websites you can select a 2 storey house but they often ask for size in SQUARES which is different to square metres...250 square metres is just under 27 Squares
I wonder if that is an Aussie thing ? I've bought and sold a few houses and commercial buildings , never built one , but here in NZ I've always talked in sq mtrs ( or sq ft which is basically 10 times sq mtrs ) and not only has everyone understood , but I've never had anyone say -- oh 2000 sq ft is 17.86 squares .
maybe, but my understanding is that 2000sqft = 20 squares and the old Squares measurement (100 sq feet) is still used on many Australian builders' websites and quite familiar to older home builders but we mostly use square metres to describe the area of a block of land (sections?) and the floor area of buildings
Yes Squares is an old fashioned term being going out of use prob in last 20 years but still hear it and see it on some house sales. I’m only just over 50 and still think of my height in feet and inches and have to convert it back.
I was bought up on a farm ( my dad was a farmer and agricultural contractor ) and in the late 70's/early 80's , as a teenager working in the busy times , occassionally a farmer would say he wanted his paddock ploughed or hay mowed , and would say it is 6 chains by 8 chains or something . How long will that take ? What will it cost ? Even Dad would just shrug his shoulders and say it depended on so many factors -- we'll do it , we'll send you a bill , we've been going 20 years and most customers still use us , but if you think the bill is too little , let us know .
I still have no idea how big a chain is , or even an acre or hectare ( visually ) and while I can guess if a house is less than 100 sq mtrs or over 200 , or a section under 400 mtrs or over 1000 , I rely on others for the exact bits haha .
I'm 6 ft 3 or 1.9 mtrs , and my car does at least 250km/h , and my credit card worked yesterday and probably will today . Thats the only stats I need to know haha .
the original question was to find a 2 storey 250sqm house so again i encourage Samantha to Google project home builders to check out their websites with a culling system that will identify hundreds of suitable options...i assume this is for some sort of study project for which she needs to do her own research
