What materials do shaker style cabinets come in?

Hi all, I was wondering what materials a shaker style cabinet comes in? I've been reading a lot online about melamine/laminate being the most durable and cost effective type of material for kitchen cabinets, however am not sure if this can be made in the shaker style?
I've read that it can be made in polyurethane and Polytech Thermolaminate, and would be interested to know if these would be durable e.g. do they dent, colour or peel easily and also if these options are costly?
Thanks so much for your help in advance!
