Painted cabinet doors are generally at the top of the price point, with polyurethane in either gloss, satin or Matt finishes being rather expensive, and hand painted doors even more so. Laminate on the other end of the scale are cheaper, but also only have the option of a flat door. If a profile is what you what, as most if not all painted doors are profiled, ( have a door shape), but the durability of laminate is wanted, then a vinyl door can provide both. Depending on your door provider, try to stick with Australian manufactured vinyl doors to ensure they meet our regulations, such as albedor or tesrol doors, and they will give you best of both worlds. Also, being that they are cheaper than painted timber doors, modern kitchen construction means replacing doors are as easy as clipping off hinges, and ordering new ones!

Hi Sheryle, I would suggest to try using a colour that brings out the grey veins of the bench top - either a tile or glass splashback. Here are a few examples of all white kitchens with different coloured and textured splashbacks- Subway white tiles and grey grout that can bring out the benchtop colour: A contrasting colour: A stone splashback (you can even use the same Frosty Carima stone): Good luck for your project!

oklouise thanks for the ideas. We have actually really thought about the zoning. We want the two bedrooms on the southern side with a bathroom between for privacy. We also want the eastern lounge room to pop out as a dining room in that spot will waste a gorgeous view. We had a straight alfresco and thought it was all a bit hohum. I will attach the first and second drafts to see where we have come from. The first draft we had drawn was too boring for us ... Garry hated draft 2 as he thought it was too wide for solar access and didn't give cross ventilation (north to south or vv). It's only positive was the flow of west/east cross ventilation. Also the bathroom was too tucked away for guest use when we are using that nice alfresco area. We quickly scrapped all those ideas... LOL As I said, we like skillion roof lines and are planning on clerestory windows to maximise northern sun. Some raked ceilings will probably happen too (and definitely 9 foot ceilings in living areas). the mudroom/laundry will probably be incorporated into the hallway. Unlike some on this forum previously I don't object to entering through the laundry. It kind of gives a landing spot for groceries from the car on those cold days you don't want to leave the whole house open. The garage may actually be a carport to ensure we can have ventilation come through that way and to help us with budget.

Hi Louise, Thank you for replying. My house is in North west of Sydney. The block is flat. The house is split level. There two bedrooms study and bathroom at level1. Inlaws accommodation and garage in the one level under ground level, rest at the ground level. There is a deck at the rear from the family room to the rear garden. I have plans to renovate the whole house but no plans to extend. We have a big front garden but not so big rear garden. We love the dinning area and the family room room at the rear . The front of the house is facing north east. My wife, myself and a 2 month old live in the house. However my parents frequently visit us from overseas and live with us. I also have my sister come visit and stay with us some times. The bath room and the kitchen on the ground floor is facing east and the bathroom and toilet upstairs is facing west. There is no bathroom in the inlaws accommodation. Inlaws accommodation is used for guest for example my sister visits. We prefer open plan arer towards the rear than the front but I am open for suggestions as the kitchen and the living is at the front of the house.
