Comments (6)I'd have the pool on the right side of the yard, the pool fencing would work /flow much better on this side and seeing as your children would probably spend more time on the grass area than in the pool it enables you to see this area from the kitchen . It would be nicer to walk from your kitchen through to alfresco and onto the grass in a straight line while the right side of your alfresco would have the pool fence and this could be an area to sit and watch once your kids are much older. Contrary to an above comment we have successfully grown a nice hedging screen between our pool and fence in only 60cm of garden bed so you don't need metres. Our space between our house and fence is 7m and our pool is 4.1m wide. We had to have 2m space from the house to pool which only left 90cm on the other side and our paver is 30cm! I think it'll work for you. Good luck ☺...See MorePlease help/design/ideas to modernise our 80s pool/fence on a budget
Comments (40)Hi Jenny, I'd suggest popping into your local nursery (not big box store). Often they will offer a consultation service where they can come out and help suggest plants that suit your aspect, climate and situation. The other option is to have a consultation with a local landscape designer or horticulturalist who specialises in planting. Check your local landscape association or AILDM for listings in your area. An outlay now could save you $$$'s in the longer term, as well as making sure that what you do spend your money on is going to give you the most bang for your buck. They'll also have local knowledge as to what can potentially become weeds. Just remember you can't plant anything against the fence that can be considered climbable - this can include hedges. Have a look at the link I included above as to what the definition of climbable is. Look for lush and green to link in with the background. Some pops of colour; maybe foliage (eg alternanthera) or flower (bougainvillea or mandevilla) will also help to lift it and make the green more green. Small growing varieties of lomandra may be better than the large one you have there - this could easily be moved, divided and used elsewhere....See MoreLimestone Pavers around new pool - Help with these 2 options please...
Comments (12)Hello everybody, I have lived in Europe and also built several houses for which I have used blue stone. It is particularly in Belgium and Holland the most preferred natural stone for architects and home owners. You can of course for the cheaper ceramic tiles with a concrete or blue stone look but it will never be the same. The blue stone quarries have traditionally been in Belgium so you will see there lots of homes, streets and public buildings that are built with this stunning stone. You find it in different varieties (honed, polished, rough, etc..) and you can use it indoors as well as outdoors. We are going to build a hew house close to Sydney and will definitely go for blue stone both inside and outside, including the area around the swimming pool. In Australia, I have been told that blue stone is mainly quarried in Victoria. I am presently considering either to buy it there or to i port it from Belgium (which quality is slightly better and available in more varieties). Another very nice alternative is blue lime stone which in Australia is presently being imported from mainly Turkey. I have built with blue stone before and the result has always been much nicer than with granite, marble, travertin and of course also than the cheaper ceramic tiles that you find everywhere. We will probably combine the blue stone inside the house with underfloor (hydronic, not electric !) heating. Nice and cool in summer and pleasantly warm in winter....See MoreHelp please! pool/BBQ area landscape ideas
Comments (2)Gosh yes pebbles and pools don’t mix well. You need to keep a higher edge around pool from the surrounding ground, at least the area outside your pool fence to minimize overland water flow into pool during storms. The type of surface depends on your budget. I would keep the larger area fairly simple and dress up the smaller pool surround for feature. This work is not cheap so best getting a landscaper involved to ensure it meets your needs...See MoreRIA AY
