Kitchens Design Dilemma

help: plan to extend cabinets into dining area

Please have a look at the plan and let me know ideas on what kind of cabinets look good in dining area? will it be weird if i have cabinets in dining as well? will have a separation wall between kitchen run and dining cabinets though. Requesting for ideas..thank you!

Yes, I’d include a section of bench and some glass doors in uppers but it depends on your style

I like this idea and have thought for awhile I would do the same if I were to build. I think you need continuity in both the wall, lower cupboards and connection between styling/furniture across areas. See image for inspo. Good luck. Would love to see pic in future.

Full built ins across your window wall would look amazing. Maybe consider keeping drawers along bottom for a clean look and hidden storage for not so pretty items and then shelving above. Taking it all the way to the ceiling would look great too. For the short wall next to the door you could think about shelving to the inside of the window seating for a different look like the images below. We would love to see your final outcome!

Hi Kelly You have lovely colours and finishes in your home, makes for a great starting point. If your dining table fits in the lounge room with plenty of room then it might be an option. You could consider then making the front room a nice sitting area. If you are thinking of updating your main sofa to a corner type then maybe go for single chairs in the front room which you can anchor with a rug and round coffee table. See images below. Then to create a more formal entry way, separate the area with a bench seat that can (so it would sit opposite your built in at front door) then lay a hall runner between the two. A plant next to the bench would help screen between also. You could then replace the photograph with a mirror (possibly round to contrast with cabinets) and add catch all bowl for keys, sunnies, etc... Hope this helps and we'd love to see what you decide to do.

Depending on your budget and how much structural work you want to have done, you could keep most of it the same. But you would loose your meals room. extend your laundry to the door of the meals room, turn your laundry side ways this will give you access to the out side, on the other side of the laundry extend your wall pass the internal door of the meals room to create a walk in pantry, extend kitchen gallery to laundry and pantry, open up internal walls of kitchen to living room and dinning room creating a beautiful Island bench looking into living room. open up external dining room wall for sliding doors to bring the inside out. because there is a walk in pantry there would be no need for upper counters so u could also have a bar at the kitchen window on the outside. Doing it this way you would save a lot of money not having to move plumbing and electrical in the kitchen. You would have to walk through your kitchen to get to laundry though.

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Although the kitchen, dining and the entry area at large would benefit from moving the bedroom door inside, I tend to agree that the privacy and function suffer more from a bedroom door within the lounge. I was suggested elsewhere to widen the lounge entrance and remove its door thus making the layout more open and "modern". I think this would not help, though, with the door positioning problem - either way. Bigreader, bedroom 2 = top room on the layout? It can be used as a spare bedroom but it is surrounded with shutters and large windows. I think It better suited for leisure or as a work space. Oklouise, thank you for the effort in redrawing the layout and experimenting with it. The suggestion for exchanging the hinges direction is spot on. The bathroom is not built yet. I am considering replacing the bath with a partly open shower:

Ii think it would look great. Base cabinets exactly the same as the kitchen with same benchtop. You could also add uppers with glass doors or open shelves.

I can’t work out how to share images I found but these 2 give you an idea although you will have to use your imagination!

thanks for these comments guys..i think i would do base cabinets exactly the same as the kitchen with same benchtop and uppers..i was worried if it might look like too long a kitchen run in that space..also too much cabinetry? is this kind of extension something people do these days or is it usually just a freestanding cabinetry/buffet in dining?

I would extend the cabinets right along the wall.
I would not put a partition wall between kitchen and dining that you have mentioned.
There is no right or wrong design. It depends on how much room you have available in the dining room for comfortable sitting and enough room to pull chairs out from the dining table.
If depends on how much storage you require.

Personally I would not include uppers into the dining area. I would just continue the lower cabinets along the wall into dining.

If you require the separation wall for structural purposes, then something like this may work.
