Which wall should i wallpaper?
Comments (5)I would definitely paint out timber frames, they in themselves become the feature if you don't…..and I would hope you mean a soft grey! To "hide" skirts and arc's (I renovate and sell for a living) I do them the same colour as the walls but in a satin finish…..you could do semi gloss….a water based enamel works best. Make sure you prep them well though, either a good sand to rough up, or something like ESP. I always thought rule of thumb for a feature wall, paper or paint, is the wall opposite the greatest light source, ie. the wall that gets hit with the most natural light. Failing that, I think it would look lovely on the alcove/bay window wall and do the inset of the alcove/bay window in a contrast….say a soft version of the pinkish hues in the paper??? You seem to have some substantial pieces of furniture, and a piano, so doing the other walls would compete and look overbearing to me. Unless you are going the whole Regency style embossed paper/stripes/pattern everywhere…………......See MoreOpening up enclosed deck- or not! Exterior dilemma!
Comments (12)How about keeping the framework of the enclosed patio and the wall but opening it up... so pull off the roofing but keep the trusses... and grow some vines like a bouganvillea on a trellis over the area. It would protect your privacy and not waste the infrastructure of what has been built, but it would give the spot some beauty and street appeal. Bouganvillea or a similar brightly coloured vine would look amazing. Maybe a combination of vines so that you have maximum flowering... so some autumn leaf colour, summer flowers, spring flowers... think romantic like wisteria, jasmine, clematis, rose... or bold and tropical bouganivillea and mandevilla. You can paint the trellis a contrasting colour to add some appeal while the plant is growing up. Pulling off the roof will bring better air flow and light back into the living area....See MoreWhat should I do with this rental red wall?
Comments (12)I'm what I consider a reasonable landlady and unless the paintwork is shabby, I don't allow the tenants to paint the walls, as every tenant wants something different and they are not professional painters, so it can be messy, but no harm in asking. I would hang as many things as possible on that wall to make a feature of it. ie. a couple of large paintings in your preferred colours, mirrors, photographs and anything else to fill the wall as the TV unit is definitely limiting and you will be looking at that wall every day....See MoreWhat colour should I paint this wall and artwork ?
Comments (10)Hi MaxCC, Your 'artwork' is called a wall niche. As far as I know, they were originally used to display religious icons, such as The Virgin Mary. I'm not religious but I do admit that I have a special love for wall niches. I have used them twice in homes that I've built as a place to display my 'Lamplighter' Lladro, so that he is on display to guest. The niches were always placed just inside the front entrance as yours is. Sadly I don't have any photos to show you, as we have just moved house and everything is still in storage. My suggestion, to help you with how to display the object that you will put into your niche, would be to keep the wall itself neutral but paint the niche in a metallic paint. Your want the object on display to be the item of greatest interest and the metallic paint [Resene have some wonderful colours to chose from] will help to draw your eye to that space....See MoreAnother Dumbass
