and pantry hinge opening advice

Looking for insight on hinge side for both pantry and kitchen plus placement.

We are doing a big two storey back extension on a small narrow inner city cottage. Unfortunately due to space and council restrictions (and also our budget) we had to slightly compromise on our already established kitchen. These plans are already approved so there isn’t scope to change the kitchen layout or the plans. Just advice on the placement only for both fridge and pantry please. I’ve attached the floor plan.

BASE INFO: They will be opening up our Kitchen by knocking down the wall on the east side, and extending the wall by 650mm on the south wall next to the dishwasher “D”. But to make for a wide enough hallway there is a new wall on same east side of 750mm to accomodate stairs into a room but it’s pushing it about 300mm in, encroaching on our foot area.

APPLIANCE INFO: The oven “O” is on the west wall and opens forward to the east wall.

Our pantry “P” is on the east wall, opening to the west wall, hinge on the left side, handle on the right. It is We are replacing our fridge. It’s 320mm wide, and 600mm deep.

Our fridge “F” will be new. We have our hearts set on a 2m tall fridge that is 600mm wide, 600mm deep, 500L. But it ONLY has a right hand hinge, handle on the left. It has two slide out bottom drawers for fridge and freezer.

I’d like some insight on three options of placement of our fridge and pantry (which used to be on the east wall now being demolished TX).

OPTIONS 1 and 2

  • 600mm wide fridge “F” on new extended south wall, next to dishwasher “D”.
  • Pantry on the north wall, facing south OR
  • Same as fridge but pantry on the east wall facing west keeping the left hand hinge open against the north wall.

Questions :

  1. Do you think it’s very cumbersome to have the right hand hinge on the fridge ie the door will open against the bench above the dishwasher. Instead of opening into the hallway where people are walking.
  2. Do you think we have to reverse the pantry door to be right hinge instead of left when facing south.
  3. Do you think the pantry facing west is too cramped with the oven. Our behinds will touch if one is at the oven and the other in the pantry.

OPTION 3:

  • 600mm fridge on the north wall facing south. Right hand fridge so it opens against the east wall.
  • Pantry on the south side next to dishwasher. Opens left hand hinge against the hallway.

Questions:

Will the cavity between the fridge and oven look strange?

The difference w the pantry being placed here is that the pantry is only 300mm deep instead of 600mm deep like the fridge.

Any other ideas are welcome!!!

Thank you!
