Please help with Portico colour choice.

We bought this home and wanted to make the colours less boring so we painted the portico Woodlands grey but now not sure if that was the right colour. The second picture has the original colour portico in Beige Royal.

What colour looks best? What other colour would look better for our portico?

Roof is monument, bricks red jarrah and windows are surfmist, Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

You do realise what you wrote ? You wanted it less boring , so you painted it grey ?

To be fair , I like the original colour , BUT it is too close to the upstairs off-white , so I can see why you changed it -- it all sort of melts together . ( On a side note , I think monument windows would have suited the house too , but that isn't answering this haha ) .

So what would work ? Bright red would be the radical choice , it would make the whole house stand out , but I realise 98% of people wouldn't go that far .

A light to mid apricot would be my second choice , and I assume more palettable to most people -- it is reasonably sunny and summery , would pick everything up without upsetting too many people .

A light mushroomy taupe would be a good 'in between' colour , have a hint of colour so it differentiates the '3 zones' of brick , portico and upstairs , but too bland for most people .

So might a buttery beige , but that would be risky -- to light and you may as well have left the original colour there , too yellowy and it would look too 80's .

I'd keep away from anything with any tinge of blue ( like surfmist ) ; green ; brown ; pink -- either too trendy or too old .

Thank you robandlyn. I am definitely leaning towards the karndean especially for the kids. I might use it for a splashback?? hi the interior therapist. Thank you for your reply. The budget that was put into our build (by the builder) makes hardwood floors an extra $23k. Although the 600 x 600 are expensive to lay it still comes in at less than half the price including bathrooms. We had hardwood in our last house, I liked it but it scratched and dented with chairs and kids dragging their sandy bikes inside. i am worried that I will choose the tile and hate the cleaning and potential slippery accidents in summer but I worry about the look of karndean....... is it very plasticky? I have some samples but it's very hard to tell from such a small piece. Is the tile we have chosen too 'busy' for all areas? Maybe I have really bad taste and it's an ugly tile lol Thanks so much for all your help guys :)

If you are after a durable and stable timber floor then Spotted Gum is superior to an engineered floor. But there are many others like Turpentine, Blackbutt, Brush Box, Mahogany to name a few. Having said that the installation process for both are completely different. The longest lasting timber flooring system is Australian Hardwoods installed over Hardwood Battens. Having been in timber flooring in Sydney for over 57 years our experience with trying different products always brings us back to Australian Hardwoods. Selecting a grade of timber does not translate into colours it is merely the quality of the timber board ie in the imperfections of nature - Select Grade has less gum vein and grub marks than say Standard Grade - however if you choose a commercial named grade then you get whatever the suppliers offers in their own grading. Oh and by the way be aware that many imported products are products with Formaldehyde which is toxic. But I agree with Paul if you are after uniformity then you need to go with an engineered product, the beauty of hardwoods lies in the variation so that no two timber floors will be exactly the same. Hope this helps a little more - being a tradesman we do not necessarily base our choices on colours but rather performance of the timbers which varies from species to species.

I agree with black bamboo and oklouise -- everything looks 60's , but in a clean , updated way , with 2 exceptions and a comment ! The two that are out of character is the roof ( but its livable ) and the portico . Even the gardens look 60's inspired , and I like the overall effect . Thge comment -- it needs more colour , a bit of wow ! So the very first thing I'd do is the front door in the brightest fire engine red gloss I can , it both references the brick but it adds the wow in a small way . It will take some of the focus off the portico , but probably not enough for my taste . So I'd probably do it in Surfmist or similar -- OR a 50's apricot with a bright orange door if you are brave ! But the upstairs still lacks something -- too mehhhh . The grey in the windows I am guessing are roller blinds ? I'd change them for a mid red or orange , but that may not work with the interior colours ? So maybe wooden venetians -- brings in the natural element and touch of class , and still works well with most interiors . Especially if going wooden , I'd do downstairs windows the same -- if going for coloured roller blinds maybe not . It will look more uniform and thought out for $10-15k ( less if you do some or all yourself ) IMO .

Oh , and I'd definitely stain the fence in charcoal too , if it hasn't been , and I love the hedge and birdbath etc

I like the Woodlands best. I’d add a modern arbour over the garage door also in Woodlands. And then really lush up the landscaping.

My colour isn't exact, but you could try painting the garage door to match the Portico and even consider painting the bricks within the Portico to match the upstairs timber.

Please help with Portico colour choice.
