diy bathroom reno do i need to waterproof
Comments (6)Hi Jaimie, Please ensure you waterproof your bathroom. My advice is to use a licensed professional. An average bathroom costs in the vicinity of $600 to waterproof using a qualified waterproofer, and sleep easier at night knowing that you have recourse if something goes wrong. If you were to do it yourself, you'd spend between $300-$350 on materials to do it, so it's quite economic to engage a waterproofer. Good luck! Comments (16)For most projects we are engaged for we begin with what we call a "feasibility" stage of service which is structured to provide clarity in regards to what are the logical and viable project approaches. The exercise considers options/variations of a nominated project scope within the specific context and applies accurate cost projections to a considered array of scenarios/options in broad form. We find this exercise to be is extremely helpful, particularly when people are scratching their heads with how far or how exactly to best approach a renovation/extension. What it does is provide the client with accurate information and understanding of what is possible in a particular format and for what cost and can hence they are better positioned to make properly informed decisions one way or the other moving forward. Whenever a significant property/project investment is being considering we believe it makes sense to allocate a proportion of the investment to professional advice that will help focus the project direction to both best suit a particular circumstance and also result in a maximised outcome/value....See MoreDo I need planning / building permit to add an additional bathroom
Comments (13)but have you checked with the local council and other owners to find out about any restriction to your proposal ...you need to allow at least 80cm x 80cm for space for a toilet (including knee and elbow room) 820 wide and no smaller than 750wide for a doorway and pocket doors need the whole wall ie more than twice the width and taller than a door to be removed form the brick wall to allow for a new framed wall to enclose a pocket door, you may be able to find a tiny shower or have one custom made as a"wet room" but that means lowering the whole floor to allow for drainage and your plans don't allow any room for walking and standing to dress and attempting to keep the small entry hall uses too much space needed for the bathrooms ... i'd be surprised if a plumber would agree to do the work ..i think a variation of my original ideas is the best option but you need to check with the other owners, council and a plumber to find out what;s really possible as there are many practical and legal reasons that need to be considered...See MoreKatrina H
