Still deciding on kitchen - thoughts please .....
I posted back in December and still haven’t finalised kitchen 😉😂
Have finally decided on layout and was all for shaker cabinets in 2pak but today I am thinking it does look busy so am thinking maybe laminate with “satin” finish.
Has anyone got photos of their laminex kitchen with stone bench tops?
Flooring, bench tops and splashback decided:
vinly planks in Spotted Gum, Quantum Quartz Bella Carrara bench tops (top photo - not the one with other samples) and matt white textured subway (that look more antique white than vivid white.
Had chosen Taubman Silver Service for bottom cupboards and Twill for lower so am thinking laminex in similar colours.....
(Excuse the terrible photos and kitchen design photo - but gives you an idea !!) Also - the wall on right has been removed.

Comments (43)You can always go with textured glass or slump glass,it has a more rustic look and doesn't look so modern as plain glass, it's much easier to keep clean too as it doesn't streak and there is no grout...we have a very traditional kitchen and it looks amazing,this is my laundry and is actually quite a vibrant purple with dragonflies on it because,in the laundry,why not? Comments (15)Hi Lil, I believe your original plan works much better than the revised version. While the notion of ideal working widths is great, the larger problem here is the post. I worked on a project very similar to this last year where a post could either be connect to, or separate from the island. What we found was that by separating the island the space between island and post became very awkward. It's not enough of a space to comfortably walk through or be seated at the island in front of. Instead of your room feeling open and generous in proportion, it is going to start to feel cramped and awkward. We have a kitchen in our showroom (Kitchen Studio Tauranga NZ) with a 6ft gap between bench and back wall and it works wonderfully. It allows someone to work at the sink and a second at the island with ease. Stick with the original plan. Comments (46)Nice result and a very hard choice between the 2! For those who are interested, you do need to have a handrail that runs the whole length of the flight. We have vertical brushed aluminium rods on the steps that start from the 5th tread (to keep a sense of openness) but needed a wall rail as well. We chose the rod option over glass for something different and with far less maintenance. Comments (4)I have renovated 2 kitchens in 2 different homes over the last 15 years. Both times we lived with the original kitchen for around 2 to 3 years before we decided on the layout of the new kitchen, although 1 year would probably be enough,, but I think you need to experience the house in every season.. Living in a house for awhile makes clear how the house works for you or doesn't work and sometimes this is not immediately obvious. A kitchen is a big expense. You want to be sure you get it right first time. The current kitchen looks perfectly usable, so why not see how it goes for awhile? Also, 're the wine wall. Wine needs to be stored in stable conditions, away from heat and sunlight. I would be very careful about storing any quantity of wine in a kitchen or open area with abundant natural light, unless you are using purpose built cabinets with temperature control and some way of blocking the light....See More
