Newish house but I'd like to upgrade some things on the exterior to make this home look more like a Victorian era home. Any suggestions? Budget is open at the moment I just want some ideas.
I think your facade is nice and simple with no need to do much to it. But some gorgeous landscaping would really make a difference. You might find a local landscape designer can create a plan with planting guide which would suit your area.
I would also create a pathadd some symmetry at the front and avoid the emphasison the driveway which is currently has (given driveways and attached garages aren't exactly Victorian era)
I don't think your roof colour portrays that -- either darker , or that oxide red ( the red may look too close to the bricks , but white gutters and barge boards will break things up .
The veranda uprights seem strange with a couple having red highlights -- just go white everywhere , with bigger scrolls if you can get them , and not knock into them haha .
So that leaves the big window , and the gable . Do something with the gable , go for extra smaller panels , then even more , even smaller panels to get a 3D effect , scalloped edges , maybe a fake roof vent ? And the window -- I'd replace with one with at least 20 smaller panes , maybe wooden framed . Not truly Victorian , but more authentic than what is there .
So $15k tops ? then maybe a white fence , those concrete skittle looking bollards and concrete scalloped edge top to contrast with the brick , but stay 'in era' . The only problem is the red letterbox or whatever that is -- it will look strange painted white IMO , but its also too good to demo , whereas to expand to a full width fence in the brick , especially with those posts at regular intervals , would be too much IMO .
Lovely house, I would concentrate on the landscaping,by updating the planting it will give a whole new look, hiring a landscape designer would be dollars well spent , look at Peter Fudge, Jack Merlo, Dean Herald for inspiration.
