Need help on exterior colours for 1970's house!
Comments (10)i actually like the sound of the mossy green with creamy trim as the other houses in the street are cottage like "eg. why i didn't want to stand out to much, it is a country town" the door has a fly screen on behind that a wooden door with glass panels, The porch is a bit weird.. haha, It's not free standing just the way i took the picture i think but nether the less it is coming off when we save a little more i would like to come out along the lounge window ( on the right ) and come out to near the ( left window ) as a decking, think it would look okay? I was thinking the grays aswell! I wasn't to sure weather it would be to dark and dull? *best picture i have on the computer of the door at the moment ..sorry...See MoreHelp Modernising our 1970's Brick Home Exterior
Comments (36)This is just like our Mediterranean house in Canberra. It was rendered white which never cracked or got mould on it, though I would prefer it to be done in a modern colour like our current home on the Gold Coast which is a rich sand colour with a heavy bagged appearance that has faded from a strong dark sand. With beautiful dark patterned orangey tiles all outside that reflect their colour on the walls during the day it is quite magical. Roof tiles also spray painted after being re pointed. I suggest you amplify the lovely quality of arches and don't go for what is trendy. But go with colour scheme for the house design. At our entrance there is a built up garden courtyard feature with wonderful iron gates and a large water feature in the courtyard that the lounge room looks out to and has the French doors that also opened onto the courtyard garden. Commence the courtyard wall to the left side of the steps and create a flat area at the gated entrance where we had a north single gate and a west double gate. The Pines were planted on the outside of this courtyard wall and gave extra privacy and blocked the westerly afternoon sun. The house always looked impressive, yet was just a simple presentation....See MoreSeeking design ideas for courtyard of 1970's home
Comments (4)Thanks Michael, I should have said that the patch in the middle is where there was on old stump with an enormous elkhorn around it. It was lovely but occupied too much space so we have removed that and put down the mulch until we know what to do with the floor. I am thinking about installing a deck over the brown tiles and all the way across the whole courtyard so that we have one larger area. If I could find out the cost of installing a lintel (?) and removing the one upright in the middle then I think we'd have a much larger area for outdoor table etc....See More1970's yellow brick facade colour ideas - HELP
Comments (3)guess you would have completed the update by now but just in case, They built great houses in the 70"s, a lot had concrete tiled roofs, have them checked and if sound paint them grey along with gutter and barge boards as you suggested but please do a soft grey otherwise it will look too top heavy, down pipes same colour as bricks (photo of soft grey roof) Paint garage doors same as brick colour minus the stripe, Front entrance update would help, does this open into a small foyer Railing, windows painted, I prefer black for this, I have attached a photo of a house that the owners had the roof painted, they painted all the metal windows themselves, said it was easy. Paving in front of entrance, this photo shows they used white pebbles and pavers with a small screen, plus a new hedge. similar entrance doors to these let in much needed light as these houses can be quite dark...See MoreSmemmy
