Comments (20)I've seen a few sliders painted with blackboard paint - they're so fun and mobile, if there's a hall door somewhere it might be an option as they muffle sound rather than seal it out. KRAKEN WHALE FIGHT! If it's childlike dreams you want to be added to the house, maybe do a kiddy-height connecting door between the kids' rooms or a little message chute they can send back and forth, pigeon holes to send letters to each other or some crazy options like your hidden door in a more public area like the front entertaining space. There are so many ways to add whimsy that can be fixed up and removed later on if yall need. If the kids are smol: Kids only door or Door in a door There's an amazing episode of Grand Designs with a couple of superfun ideas Scooby Doo House that made me realise hidden doors and revolving shelves are better for playrooms than bedrooms....See MoreMaster bedroom, WIR and en-suite design
Comments (12)reluctant to lose the convenience of outside access to a toilet my suggestion sacrifices a little space off the lounge and bedroom to keep the extra toilet and use the original laundry space for a bigger ensuite with separate toilet and double vanities, the new extension makes a more spacious wiw with only standard doorway openings to the new rooms but the ideal outside door for the laundry will depend on the location of the drying area and you may decide that a western door or no outside door (and walk through the verandah?) could both add more counter space to the laundry and, much as i like the gable roof for the extension, it would be interesting to obtain a comparative quote for a simple skillion roof (and raked ceilings for the new laundry and wiw) that may save a lot of extra roof structure that doesn't add anything to the inside of the new rooms or streetscape and could be much cheaper.....See MoreThoughts on flipping staircase and Master suite layout
Comments (15)Thanks everyone for you thoughts but as this is a renovation/add on of our house we aren’t planning on moving wall of existing bathroom, toilet & laundry except to move the toilet door into the bathroom so people can go to the toilet in privacy. With 2 other toilets in the house and another in the shed there’s always one available. We’ve lived with the toilet door as it is for 21 years and when we’re at the dinning table you can hear what’s going on in there. We’re quite happy with kitchen layout. One of the main reasons for this renovation is to improve the indoor outdoor flow as our outdoor entertainment area is directly outside the new entry in the kitchen. Currently everyone comes through the laundry....See MoreMaster suite layout dilemma
Comments (10)the best location for the external door is in the ens or the one next to the wiw where the walking space to wiw and outside door would overlap...having the external door in the corner means that you have to have an extra walkway on either side of the bed and side tables and that takes up much more space that is better used in the wiw and ens...having the wiw door in the centre of the wiw makes no difference to the location of the outside door (although it wastes more space in corners that can't be used and would give a better view of the toilet from the bed which could be avoided by having the toilet on the outside wall) or if the wiw door is closer to the hall side the shower has to be swopped to the outside wall or you will walk on wet floors ..if you want a view of the courtyard from the bedroom consider windows that can be narrower than a door and think about the external door being from the ensuite...See MoreTanya Couch
