Congrats, great potential. I agree that a grey like limed white would be great on the walls. The ceilings look lower than some 60s houses and painting both ceiling and walls in the one colour or 1/4 strength can accentuate the height of the rooms. White trim on the skirts and door frames are not too bland but those windows may look better framed with a darker trim. This colour palate will be a great canvas for you to add colour and texture that you indicated you like in furniture, baskets, throws etc. Suggest sticking to painting pre move in and once you've lived there a while you will know what you/house needs. Hi isla87. Congratulations on buying your new home! I see your dilemma here, an L shaped space can be hard to work with. If im reading your plans correctly, the only sliding door is the 3-stacker to the alfresco? My first idea is If Family and Dining width is 4.5m, then it may be okay to fit an 8 seater table in the dining room - i dont think you would have problems with that. The 2 single seat lounges may need to go in the living space along with a nice coffee table and use as a retreat? I know this may not be desirable but if you don't want the home cramped this may be the only option. You could then have the 3 seater and 2 seater arranged in an L-Like shape to have a good veiwing distance from the tv that will be situated on the opposite wall. Otherwise another idea, could be to have the dining table in the living area. There should be enough space with 3.9 metres You shouldnt be blocking the main bedroom if the dimensions are correct. Then you could have the 3 seater and the 2 seater in the living space and have the tv on the wall opposite your alfresco sliding door. Believe there should be ample room for the 3 seater to go parallel to the tv wall. and the two seater in an L shape with the 3 seater again. then the space where you walk out to the alfresco could be your second seating area. Hi Pele - I hope you don't mind, but to my mind the thing that immediately jumps out at me as not fitting is the colour of the orange terrace tiles! The wall colour and roof colour seem in the earth/cool ochre range, and sort of complement the cool grey driveway even though they are different. The terrace tiles being bright orange clash! If you do/don't have the budget, I would prioritise painting or staining these tiles the Basalt colour which is a deeper grey like bluestone! Or even better switch your budget to retiling this area with a deeper grey or bluestone exterior tile. Add a few plant pots - and I love your timber garage door and possibly timber balustrade - and it would be dramatically transformed! I think this would be a better impact-for-dollar than painting the roof tiles which look to me to be in good condition. Good Luck!

Thanks for all your responses. The garage as marked on the plan is incorrect - this is actually a carport and is allowable under Council setbacks. Standard side boundary setbacks requirement is 1.5m, but a relaxation can be sought on this. Thanks for your comments re going up Siriuskey - whether or not to go up is something we have grappled with. I agree that this would probably take best advantage of the block, but it is not how we want to live in this home. Thanks for your thoughts oklouise - there are several elements of your plan that are very appealing - the laundry and powder work really well and the adjustment to the kitchen to have a servery to the kitchen is great. Paul's thoughts about moving the entry to the side of the house with more direct access to the open plan living is are a bit of an eye opener. One of the advantages of this and more of a pavilion style extensions is that an external window could be retained to the proposed music room, allowing it to stay as a bedroom. If it was possible to keep 4 bedrooms in the existing house, the size of the extension could be reduced.
