@siriuskey - thanks for the images, can see it definitely works nicely with some of those, esp that first one! unfortunately being an original californian bungalow, the front windows aren't very big so im hesitant to cover them; they are similar in width but not quite as tall as the windows in that middle picture. our bedhead, when i am standing comes up to about chin level (im 165cm) - i don't think the picture i posted does it justice as you can't see the bed legs haha...so i think it would end up looking like the middle picture :( @girlguides - i like your suggestion for shuffling around the ensuite layout - it does make sense to have the door infront of the vanity. we will try to get a bit of extra length on the ensuite (all based on council town planning restrictions due to proximity to our neighbours) and that should allow for the entrance to sit comfortably in the corner of that wall with some nice space around the vanity...will still be tight to fit the bed, side tables and door tho!!! side tables are 65cm each, and bed is approx 190cm... and width of the room is 4m on each side....so will potentially be a skinny 750cm sliding door to the ensuite...which of course is better than a skinny entrance door to the bedroom tho!!

I would definitely get them full size single beds, whichever solution you go for. You could get them each their own loft bed with heaps of storage and a desk or pullout desk underneath each. There are lots of different variants of these and some would even help to make them each feel like they have their own room or at least space. If you would like bunk beds that can still be their own single beds later, you should look into 'Bunkers' as this is their trademark. They are Australian made and all pine as well so no nasty chemicals. Pretty sure they also have the loft bed options and desks that you could put underneath. They do bunks that can go at right angles to each other with storage underneath in the corner as well so you could put the beds in the corner opposite the wardrobe and desk near the wardrobe instead of under the window if you prefer this to their own loft and desk/storage underneath:-)

Hi Houzzers You have all been so kind with your design advice, and helped us come up with this design. I think we are nearly there, and are pretty happy with the result...we still ended up with the door into bedroom from hall....but think it will be ok.....may swing the door the other way...will put doors on bathroom and sitting(not shown) I like the 2 dressing areas we have created either side of our wardrobes, and the seperate toilet. Very happy for any other input on this design before we send it off to the builder!

My daughter ran her business from her bedroom until they could afford a 3 bedroom house, their 2 bedder with two boys and no where else to fit an office was a very difficult time which thankfully they all survived. Having your office in your bedroom should be avoided at all cost, as you never leave the office behind as my daughter found out. Your bedroom is where you go to relax , I certainly wouldn't give up my sanctuary for anyone, even my kids. You are there full time so it makes sense. Your house already has enough rooms, except for making a small change to allow for another bedroom albeit small next to the bathroom as per my suggestion, Both of these rooms have space for the boys to have a desk (they don't need a lot of storage being part time) The desk in the living area can be built in to hide an office. This is a low cost solution and won't damage resale value. If down the track you can afford the new deck, try to work out to fit a room underneath as a hang out (media) area for the boys. not sure about WA but rooms like these in some states can have ceiling height at 2100, depends on what name!! you give them. My son is in a similar situation to you, except he now lives in a Studio Apartment in Sydney, so when he has his two kids 50 50 they make do in that space and seem to manage very well.
