What to do with TV, cabinetry or wall hung
i have a small lounge and the fireplace and sash windows are the stars. I’m painting and starting to consider the TV placement (paper square is the TV)
My thought was wall cabinets off the floor on either side of the fireplace with a wall mounted TV. This would have to swivel as the corner of the mantle obstructs the view from the far side of the room.
Unsure of colour and material of cabinetry due to dark colour of fireplace and whiteness of windows. Or do I forget cabinetry and go a furniture piece for the TV and a lamp or something on the other side of the fireplace? I don’t want the TV to stand out but blend in which is tricky when it sits between the fireplace and the window.

Comments (6)Hi Ali, It's a lovely room, I'm glad you showed more of it!! Judging by your comments, it seems the issue is where the powerpoints are and not where you want the TV to be am I right??? The TV would be better where your liquor table is, still up on the wall though however, I don't know if you can successfully turn your lounge to do that, as you would then have the lounge in the middle of the room and you would be looking at the back of the lounge when in the dining area but you could put a small console table behind the lounge, even the liquor stand , effectively creating the start and finish to each space. Comments (14)I only mentioned the wood thing as I think your flooring is a fantastic statement piece in itself so would either maintain the tones up the wall or maximise it with simple white lines and lighting but I am a minimalist at heart! Not a professional designer and am simply just providing an opinion. Honestly the choice is yours as far as blending light and dark, just consider the tones with each as sometimes they clash - but if that's the look your going for than all good!! :-) Maybe just start by moving the TV to the wall - you'll see a huge difference in just that. Make sure you get the height right for the best viewing otherwise you'll kill your neck! Comments (4)Hi dolly 7, The shelving unit is constructed off the wall in front of the the cavity and sits on the floor. You would only need to fix it back to the wall so it doesn't come forward. It would not be good to suspend floating shelves on this wall unless it had a back panel going to the ground. See pic examples. Sliding doors were installed onto an archway first. Wall unit built in front of sliding doors as cabinet. For holding weighty items on adjustable shelves, try to keep the width of the shelves to a minimum i.e. 50cm wide x 18mm thick, otherwise they will bow. If you increase the width, you will need to put a shelf pin in the middle at the back. 2 years agoYou could do shelving in white or wall colour, this would highlight the fireplace, put your tv on a bracket or angle it on a corner cupboard near window or you could close it off with doors to blend in with cabinetry
