I would just like to say a big thank you to the forum for helping me make many of the decisions for my ensuite bathroom renovation (layout, colours, tiles, window, doors etc).

The ensuite is all done now except for the glass panel screen to be installed.

Photos below for those interested in how it turned out. Incase anyone forgets, the floor was rotted out and originally we had a toilet as soon as you walk in with a 890mm square shower and then the other side was a full mirror and double vanity. We opted to move the toilet to make for a large walk in shower.

Hi Juliahocking - thanks for the ideas! Sorry I saw your comments on the weekend and then forgot to come back and update after I had moved the furniture around. I like the idea of moving the sofa and creating two separate spaces within the room. The problem is that the section of the room with the blank wall doesn't have a tv point so would need to get that installed. I moved one of the couches there to face the wall and it felt a little bit cramped, and the other section of the room seemed to have a lot of space to fill without the second couch. Is this what you meant? I found the photos from the real estate listing to show the previous owners set up, they might give a better indication of the space? We moved the TV to the corner because we didn't like it blocking the window, but i don't think the corner is ideal either. Do you think it would work to have a couple of chairs in the "dining" section of the room, or would that be strange to be facing to the back of the couch? Would love any ideas to make the windows prettier. I love the outlook but the brown screens and frames are not very attractive! Timandra Design and Landscaping - thanks! Will start my search for some large pieces of art and colourful cushions. Is it that rug you don't like, or just the idea of a rug in general in this room? I wasn't sure about a rug on top of carpet but thought it could be a good way to break up the space and add some colour. I am planning to return that rug on the weekend and continue my search! I agree I love the green outlook and it is really nice to lie on the couch and look out (while wondering how to set up the room!) :)

DEIA..yes tactile also if there's a problem I've got someone to go to . I'm old fashion that way.. ie. bought a pair of shoes..no stock in the store so they ordered online for me..it came badly made so I went back to the store to return ..showed my receipt ..no question asked.. or another time bought shoes for son broke apart after 2-3 times went back with my receipt..and got exchanged right away despite I've read online that that company have had a bad reputation with complaints online..I've never encountered face to face.. or saw some colander online looked quite good..went to Sydney to check them out awful quality and well at $10 a pop no go I do buy online ..not sheets more so decorative items that I've seen and can't source in physical shops

you are super-patient!!! :) :) thank you :) I'm so sorry but I do actually have a couple MORE thoughts!! argh! there are just so many different options.... and this is a bit of an all consuming puzzle to try to solve. here they are: 1) study could become main bathroom - leaving new Bed 4 as per plan since it is bigger & a better size for guests. in this option, some area could be stolen from the study to boost ensuite size - even if it just made the ensuite 1 full metre. Ideally not requiring study window to change. 2) WC could potentially be separate either within this space OR at the back of the old kitchen (allowing for the remaining, longish hall wall to be shorter again) oklouise you may think some of these ideas are not very workable & I'd be so glad for your feedback & comment (and anyone else's comments as well), it's really so incredibly helpful - unbelievably helpful - to have everyone's input. i'd love recommendations on which ideas & options might work best for that balance between function & budget

You are most welcome, I have always said that I haven't been put on this earth to "Hug" toilets, so I'am wondering who is going to clean all of these Bathrooms. Our two kids a boy and a girl had the upstairs "apartment" which they and all their friends loved. I have added a timber stair case for fun, there's plenty of space but you will need to decide what you want to do in the attic and place the stairs to open up into a tall space. I have also turned one of the ensuites into a powder room. Your Jacaranda's only drop once a year!, you used to be able to trim them by 25% each year, you would need to check with your council, we were on the lower North Shore, I think you should consider the patio side of the house and make better use of that, is the front deck something you plan on adding because of aspect, and plant some tall growing hedge ready for the apartments. Our kids Attic desk/study space over looked our pool in the rear garden. With respect to using the formal rooms for bedrooms, you will find that once you have your large family/alfresco and the kids have their upstairs space if you still feel you need it, it would make a great office. You spend most of the time there only using only using the front room in the evening for watching movies etc. I have had another play with my floor plan, I think if your wife sees this you may be in trouble, it's a Master Suite, the free standing bath in the window alcove with white timber shutters for sun and privacy control..... Iam' adding a couple of photos of our old Federation which wasn't protected, when we sold it the new owners removed all of the Fret work & posts replacing them with simple timber posts. The front rooms which we didn't use very much once we opened up the rear rooms into a family area. The room with the Bay window had a Baby grand sitting there, we sold the piano before we took the photo. Cheers

Wonderful result.

One of your challenges was about the tiles having to be cut for the correct slope. That looks good, and the cuts are barely noticeable.

The chosen timber vanity is a good choice.

Having the shower facing that way was the right decision.

My life is boring enough , without my bathroom being the same haha .

I wouldn't hang towels that close to the rainfall rose , but even if you did , if the 4 towels were changed for red , or sherwood green , or something that isn't black or white it would help .

The vanity is nice , and I'll probably get flamed for this comment , but IMO it makes the toilet seat and cistern look 'cheap' -- I have very similar toilet bowls , but the cistern doesn't look that plasticy -- maybe because the vanity is quite nice , it emphasises the toilet .

Again personally , with such a bland ( oops , apparently neutral is the new term ) cookie-cutter scheme , I would have gone copper or brass or gold effect on the fittings -- IMO the chrome would have worked if there was colour .

It may be hard to tell but the towels are 1.6 metres away from the shower - so plenty far enough away. They may get an occasional drop but not much! @User you're allowed your opinion :) isn't the bright hanging plant enough for you????? :)

we love it neutral though. It's an ensuite next to our bedroom which always has colourful linen on it ;) I've put out a mustard and white coloured hand towel on the basin.

I was going to say that the creeper was nice , but I was worried someone would say 'It's Artificial' . So yes , I do like the plant , and the vanity and sink , and a mustard and white handtowel is a good step . . . . . . . .
