Can I fit an Ensuite Bathroom in my Bedroom?
Comments (11)I think you can definitely do this, provided you can move your door which you said you can. I have an ensuite at the side of my main bedroom - it's small but perfectly adequate. I measured it and including all external walls the ensuite takes up 1.4 x 3.05m space (my bedroom including the ensuite is 4.7m long so shorter than yours.). My room is wider (3.9m) so I can have a wardrobe along the wall where your door is and the bed on the opposite wall. But for you, I'd keep your bed where it is and look at putting your bed in a 'wardrobe wall'. you have the depth (1000mm) before the window starts and I think 3.3 m is wide enough ... ~800mm robe either side of bed. See pics below for what I mean. Only you will know if this is too squeezy but an ensuite can make so much difference to your lifestyle, I think it could be worth it!...See MoreMain bedroom, Ensuite and WIR
Comments (16)www.allbuiltins.com.au I would suggest visiting some wardrobe company show rooms and display homes for ideas. You need to know what your needs are. For the walk in robe you want to have maximum storage that will suite your clothing, shoes hand bags etc. Take in to account what is worn more often? How much room do you need for long hanging for dresses and the like, Do you have a lot of business shirts or only tee shirts, suites generally need a bit more length to hang? Your height is also something that is overlooked, tall people may be disappointed with the industry standards for heights of top shelves, as long shirts will not fit well in double hanging, therefor the height of the top shelf may need to be raised to allow for more length in your double hanging. A top shelf should be no less than 1950mm high. New homes are often fitted with one top shelf at 1700 to 1800 high in the wardrobes, this is too low to include double hanging. Drawers may not be necessary in a walk in robes if you have a tall boy or chest of drawers in the bedroom. The walk in robe is best left for maximum hanging and shelves for hand bags shoes and foldable clothing, Some accessories like pull out pant racks can be an advantage but some just take up too much space. Comments (12)reluctant to lose the convenience of outside access to a toilet my suggestion sacrifices a little space off the lounge and bedroom to keep the extra toilet and use the original laundry space for a bigger ensuite with separate toilet and double vanities, the new extension makes a more spacious wiw with only standard doorway openings to the new rooms but the ideal outside door for the laundry will depend on the location of the drying area and you may decide that a western door or no outside door (and walk through the verandah?) could both add more counter space to the laundry and, much as i like the gable roof for the extension, it would be interesting to obtain a comparative quote for a simple skillion roof (and raked ceilings for the new laundry and wiw) that may save a lot of extra roof structure that doesn't add anything to the inside of the new rooms or streetscape and could be much cheaper.....See MoreMake 2 bedrooms into one bedroom with ensuite - what am I able to do?
Comments (10)I've attached the existing plan of the bedroom / study (the study was classed as a bedroom in the selling of the property as opposed to a study) and also the plans from the designer. The large window in bedroom bisects the stud wall of the rework and so I'm not sure if much can be done to make it look natural as if it belongs there hence I am thinking to brick it up and centre it around the toilet position? I will not be touching the lintel at all so structurally I wont affect anything and I am thinking I can tie the bricks to the existing brickwork Many thanks for the comment regarding Laura's treatments. I work away a lot and so her second daughter is moving in as she wants to be close to her. Daughter 1 stays with us and things are fractious between 1&2 and so it's all about creating their own areas. I also think it will add value to the house as neither the bedroom and especially the "study" are very spacious. Also for a relatively big house there is a toilet in the master ensuite and the only other toilet is in the laundry so it's not ideal. A future project might be to swap the laundry and the bathroom around Thanks again for the comments - extremely useful info....!!...See Morebigreader
