I would move vanity along wall down to door end then put your bath next to it, keep shower in same position but can now make it bigger, toilet stays in same position

Without knowing the rest of the layout of your house , and budget constraints , if redoing the bathroom , is it worth removing the linen cupboard and making the toilet into its own room ( framing lining , turn the pan 90 deg , use the linen cupboard door ) and then building another linen on the opposite corner beside the vanity ( possibly reverse the way the existing main bathroom door opens ) ?

If it is your only bathroom , probably worthwhile , but only you know .

Thanks Pottsy99. Budget wise we're trying to keep costs to a minimum ($15-20k) as only plan to live in it for 2-3yrs before then renting out. That was the builders advice to keep plumbing in as close to the same position as it is today.

We had thought about re-purposing the linen cupboard but this is where the what storage is for the apartment and will likely cause a nuisance if trying to remove. I've attached a floor plan of the whole apartment.

In addition to the bathroom we're also planning to knock down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, install a new kitchen, as well as also removing the hallway walls between the bedroom area and the living area.

In that case , why do much ?

The floor looks lino , as opposed to actual tiling , so I'd be tempted to tile it ( a nice marble or marble effect ? ) , change the blind , really clean everything , then close the door haha .

Haha I know what you mean, a quick clean could make it look a nicer but I think we want to freshen up with some new fittings and tiling.

Tiling wise going for a terrazo style and then vertical subway tiles for the walls. I'm not sure if opening the door and having the vanity straight on the left hand side of entry might be a little imposing depending on the style of vanity. We're also looking at an arc'd shaving cabinet to create some extra storage above the vanity.

with extra careful choice of fixtures my suggestion would include a back to wall corner bath and walk in shower with the bigger vanity space for under bench storage or an open space underneath for a laundry basket

but, there is no advantage to removing the wall between living and bedrooms although a window between kitchen and dining would open up the space without losing kitchen cabinets and be much more cost effective than attempting to remove whole walls but the extra space in front of the laundry could be better used...what is the internal dimensions of the laundry and the kitchen and what is the object on the wall inside the kitchen door??

Open shower can be tricky as personally I am not keen on a wet floor around toilet and vanity and is the floor sloped enough to support it. I see a drain in floor, but is it enough to stop water escaping room. I’d talk to plumber about their recommendation for shower base as you do not want leaks. Given tight space look at a 1200 or 1400 corner back to wall bath with shower at end as current positioning and run a 1100 wide sliding door in front that you can slide back across front of bath to enter shower. That will reduce splashing to toilet.

oklouise - that's really along the lines we've been thinking on the bathroom. One question I have is on the walk-in shower you're suggesting, where would the entry be? Is it a one-sided walled shower or an enclosed shower?

We had wondered whether we put a shower screen between the toilet and the shower area, but had questions as to whether the entry area next to the bath would be wide enough? And whether we need a shower screen at the end of the bath next to the shower area.

Really like the idea of the longer vanity to make use of the empty space next to the wall. We'd previously only thought of just having a laundry basket there.

For the laundry we were thinking about putting cabinetry along the whole length of the kitchen wall with a door on the front through to the laundry area. Current dimensions don't allow for a barn style door to the area and other options such as knocking the wall down and rebuilding with a sliding door recessed in to it, but will be too expensive for the gain.

Kate - do you have any examples of a sliding door you mention? How far would you expect it to slide across?
