Help brighten new loungeroom

We've just moved into our brand new house, and I've found my loungeroom is a little too dark, due to the colour of the lounge. I've tried to lighten it with throws and cushions, does anyone have any other ideas I could use? And what colour would you paint a feature wall in here? I'll include a pic of the kitchen so you can get an idea of the colours we used, I absolutely ADORE my kitchen and want to love my loungeroom aswell. Add Colour. Greens, or teal, or blue. Add with cushions, artwork, etc.

At the moment it is very brown and cream.

I would not paint a feature wall, that is so 2000's. Add a large artwork instead.

Gorgeous kitchen, I would add something gorgeous on your coffee table, remove runner, a larger rug if possible, a floating unit under tv and a fabulous piece of art for your wall, agree with dreamer I wouldn’t do a feature wall, your home is beautiful. Love your colours.

Hi Jenny, You have not posted any photos, so I hope i am on the right track with this advice! I have recently assisted two clients with updating their property, both of which were similar to how yours sounds. In the first instance, the timber panelled ceiling was retained and the exposed brick walls plastered over & painted in Resene 'Quarter Spanish White'. In the second instance, the timber panelled ceiling was retained and the timber panelled walls were painted to match the remaining plaster walls (a picture is attached below). In both instances, the spaces were dramatically opened & freshened up and modernised. I think painting the panelling and retaining the brickwork (on the basis that you like it) will work very well.

always hard to change your late parents' home and the current colour scheme sound more 50s than 20's but 1920 colours included a soft warm grey so why not try that below the picture rail and lighter version of the same above the picture rail and grey should look good with the gold carpet and fresh white ceilings and trim and be acceptable to most prospective buyers...paint specialty stores and paint websites usually have a visuallzer that can use your home photo to test the look of different colours

I love your rug but agree it's too small. I'm a bit concerned about mounting those candle things either side of the tv as I think it makes it all too much of a feature and your home is way too beautiful to make the tv some altar to be prayed to!

Looks like a boring display home. Add some bright colours, pink or red and yellow. Art work, toaster, kettle, cushions,, big vase of large flowers on bench. Find appliances and then art then soft furnishings.

It really does look like a display home, where are your windows?

Get some long mirrors and stick those square holders to them so it can help bounce the light around. It also can give it some visual interest because just sticking those holders direct to the wall makes it look extra "display home". Get some good overhead lighting and not just a lightbulb in the ceiling. Add lighting around the room. Tall lamp in corner, table lamp on side table and chunky candles on coffee table.
