Will a Dune rendered extension go with this cream facade?

Local council has required some distinction between a second storey extension and the original cream-coloured 1920s heritage facade (with black roof). We've agreed to render it a different colour and have settled on Dune for the upper storey and garage. The upper storey will be significantly set back (18m from the street behind the original house) but the garage will be brought forward a little and set back about 4m from the facade (behind that chimney). Anyone think that will look good? Any suggestions on how to make it look more cohesive? Or maybe it doesn't matter because of the setback.

We need some pics. Are you able to go lighter on the second story? Darker up top can look too heavy.

I've updated the original post with a picture. Council seems to have preferred darker extensions around the street.

Thanks. The lattice has been taken off and yes I hated it too. I think the best thing to do is paint the "triangles" in Dune. Raku is a rich dark grey colour with some brown in it. This style of house is called a "Statesman" house and those of you who live in Perth will know them well as they are known for being well built homes. I like our house but not the turrets and they must connect with the Dune render to tie the scheme together. Before the render we had a peach colour brick. The window frames will be painted surf mist. Any ideas for plants to landscape the front garden part. Thanks again.

You can get any colour paint you like in any strength - 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full - its only a colour, so they will mix it to your request. Have you made yourselves a colour board? if not, you will need to get all your selection colours together and then go to bunnings or a paint shop and get some sample pots of the colours you are debating. (yes it will cost to get sample pots, but seriously you need to do it - and get the varying strengths in the same colour as well). If you are worried about the render colour marking, go the 1/2 strength on the render and 1/4 on the mouldings. Your Wow factor will come with your varying textures - brickwork/render and trims/timber doors, and the wrought iron. I'm guessing you have exterior lighting? some beautiful exterior lights will be the icing on the cake.

I would recommend sticking with silver. Black and silver will not date as much as other colours. We went with a silver, but unfortunately all my photos are not much use as you cannot see the window frames as they blend into the outside views and inside decor.

I would lift the frontage by choosing a complimentary stack stone colour combination (on porch frontage). Don't go contrast, but try and find some that will lighten the look. It would also create a focus to the facade which I don't think is a bad thing. You need to ensure there is a fair amount of grey tones in the stack stone (or whatever stone you are using) you choose.

After seeing the pic I’d match the render of the extension to the colour of the roof tile. I’m assuming that you will still see the original roof from the front.

Its hard to see the exact colours on my screen , but the roof looks to be a charcoal but with a slight blue tinge -- you said black , I wonder if its a blacky-blue ? That might just be my computer ?

I think Dune with the existing colour scheme will look too old-fashioned ( yes , I know , it is not a modern design at present ) and I wonder about going for more a surfmist or even a lighter steel blue render 'upstairs' ? It would head down a different path , and to a fair degree it depends on the style of your extension ( it would suit a sympathetic modern update more than a 'heritage' extension IMO ) but I suspect it would look better than Dune .
