Hi arcmaz Great house - fantastic 60's modern look - Harry Sidler (Modernist Architect 1923-2006 exponent of the Bauhaus style in Australia, mainly Sydney) would have loved the interpretation, its a good style, don't change it will pay dividends in the long run. It would be good if there was a plan of the house,and a plan of the block this would allow some relatively accurate planning proposals. If you had the real-state plan with the block plan it would help a lot. In terms of making the place bigger and retaining the style I would suggest that the extension (maybe one room and an en suite depending on a budget) be a block in the today's current style, but linked to the existing house via a "link" (Link =small walkway). This would allow you to retain the style, but not be dominated by a past period, I have done this a few times and it has worked fairly well. If you are looking for three bedrooms it might be best to add a master bedroom with a bathroom, and then maybe living areas with back yard access. There may be other approaches depending on the current layout that could be considered, but I would retain as much as the original as possible, and only make small cosmetic changes until you are ready for a worthy development. I would start by looking at colours you love. Plants and greenery is not everyones taste, but it may be yours. You can put it in a vase, basket or something that adds texture and also keep in mind the size needed for the overall picture. It is better to choose things you can easily move if and when the time comes, so heavy earth filled ones will perhaps cause you some issues if moving on your own or if you have a rental with stairs. Getting back to colours - if you want a neutral colour scheme then make that the foundation you start with (like a blank canvas). In the photo, your room appears to have a neutral colour scheme at present for your bed, cushions, carpet etc. You can make it warm and cozy with contrasting cushions, throw, or plants but this is not necessary if you want to stick to all neutrals. Neutral colours generally have warmth added with shades of darker colours that enhance or act as contrast. These can be variations of one colour, picking up a flow that is good to the eye. Brown can be the contrast if you choose or you could have another choice that adds just that bit of dark and light. You may want to choose items that bring in texture as well as colour contrast. Pick out the colour of your accessories (wall art, flowers, candles or what you like) and have them work with, instead of being totally alienated from the whole. Drapes/curtains/blinds generally come with the rental property, so if these are neutral in colour, they should work with other colours you choose. If you are looking for warmth, choose warm colours; if cool, then choose cool colours for bed linen etc. Warm colours generally go with warm colours and cool colours with cool ones. Often they do not mix. As mentioned previously the same colour can be used but perhaps different shades, to produce light and dark. Tidiness is a habit we all would like to adopt, not always easy if you lead a busy life, but when time permits, put things away that need to be and it will make the whole picture also a bit clearer for you to work out what you want to create. Going to shop displays or searching the internet for ideas is also a great help. Often one can immediately say you like something or you don't. By doing this you will learn what your taste is and work along those lines. Photos are an excellent help to yourself as well as to shop assistants who are ready to advise what may work. Hi Kezzle This is a bit intricate but it should make sense... The flooring industry has tried to move across from lineal metres (lm) to square metres. Normally carpet is 3.66m wide (12ft). It sounds horrendous to buy a 4m wide (15ft) carpet at $390 lm, but if you express it as $97 sqm it's not so bad. Nevertheless, the flooring industry buys it from the suppliers in lineal metres and calculates the quantities in lm also. The trick is to balance the number of joins vs the wastage when deciding the layout. There is also a little trick in the trade where they crimp the quantity but that is for another day... There are two ways of laying the carpet upstairs. The first way is front to back of the house ie 'down' the room in eg bed 1 as shown below. This way will mean you will have a join in bedroom 3 and two in the passage, 1 being in the line of the wir doorway and the other in the line of the bed 3 cupboard. Here is a rough mud map... I can't quite make out the measurements very well, so I have written down the assumed numbers in lineal (length) metres. You can change these if incorrect. In the games room, you will have 1 join which you can't avoid due to the size of the room. This will require around 22.9 lineal metres of carpet.... and at $97.5sqm it should be costing you about $8930. Alternatively if you were paying $9,600 then the real cost of the carpet is $105 sqm.... just like Dr Retro (and there is the trick) If you turn it around the other way, you will have more joins and could do it for around 21.5-22.5lm depending on how many pieces are used in joins... I would go into the shop and ask them to show you how they are installing it.... then crunch the numbers yourself... There are about 3 or 4 ways this can be done so the above is just one... Cheers

It’s always problematic getting lights from overseas due to the different certifications. Would you like suggestions for similar in Australia? If so, tell us is it the colour/material/shape/size that you like. Most lights can be hung in a cluster is it’s just a matter of finding individual shades that you like.
