Is it a wood laminate , or formica or those plastics ? Some will paint up better than others .

POSSIBLY , painting the cabinets themselves in a white , but leaving the doors as they are , may work -- theres too much wood look there .

And I'd redo the tiles -- even if redoing in 5 years , I'd spend the $500 or less and redo , regrout , etc . Possibly try removing the grout and re-doing in white for a more modern look , but only from a distance haha -- personally I'd go for full tile replacement .

Haven't actually settled on house purchase yet, just doing preliminary project planning. Havent yet looked under floor vinyl but I think timber. This is my son's first home in Melbourne and we are planning to help with reno.

For a really quick makeover, paint splash back tiles and bench top white, use renovations paint by Dulux, add white roller blind and it will look fresh until you replace . Add some lovely pieces on bench and it will look fresh and modern.

You could also update the handles

The cupboard doors are probably the best bit. As mentioned, paint tiles and bench top (or replace) and put in blind and new handles.
