Bathroom tile HELP!!!!
Comments (9)Hi Sharella, I have specified these very tiles a number of times for first home buyer clients. I like the fact that you are putting the darker tile to the floor as I think it grounds the space better. You've also done the right thing by matching your grout to the tiles. Obviously the top picture uses a gloss porcelain tile to the floor, but this can be a slip hazard when wet. I think, with consideration to your budget, that you have chosen well. Are you splashing out and getting the black tapware? Good luck with your new home....See MoreLast minute bathroom tile changes - panic time!
Comments (9)Anna - your first photo of the terrazzo tile running up the bathroom wall is really striking, but I think it is the soaring ceiling with the natural light flooding in that makes it so appealing rather than the terrazzo tiles. All of the bathrooms are a similar size, so one way to avoid the stress of all those selections (in a short time) is to find the right tiles and follow it through consistently for all three bathrooms. I agree with you that the dramatic all charcoal tile may be a bit overpowering in a small space, unless you want to go for that nightclub/bachelor pad feel for your kids bathroom. Your kids may think it is cool now, but what about in five years time? You also need to think about how long you are going to live in the house, and how long until you renovate your bathrooms. I think that the vertical subway tile will date quickly, and in 2028 it will look very 2018. The terrazzo tile is classic, timeless, hardwearing and beautiful so I would probably be considering the terrazzo as a floor tile in all three bathrooms, matched with a large format white or soft grey wall tile that complements your terrazzo colours. This solution will give you practicality, longevity and make the spaces feel bigger. Go for understated and elegant when it comes to tile selections in bathrooms if you need them to look good for a long time. But if you are in a financial position to renovate your bathrooms in ten years time go with what is fashionable and on-trend now. Comments (7)HI there! If your looking to save money, then perhaps look into a stainless steel or ceramic walk in shower tray instead? This negates the need for waterproofing / screening / membrane etc and they can look really awesome! Some top architects are using stainless steel trays with timbers and dark tiles and it looks amazing!! Your bathroom looks great with your current tiles on the floor and the beautiful timber joinery frames so I think stainless steel would work in really well with this. If you want to do a proper walk in tiled bathroom, perhaps talk to Warm Up. They do fully tiled walk in showers as well. (not just underfloor heating) and are pretty well priced for what they do. Or companies like the below, this way you get a fully waterproofed, warrantied system. https://www.warmup.co.nz/heating-products/tiled-shower-solutions/ https://plumbingplus.co.nz/products/newline-devon-walk-in-tile-showers-chrome/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwov3nBRDFARIsANgsdoEDYdqIeqSs3rRrHYbLz_EYd94uS6q8F14DoAar6b_Q_b9piXPpNugaAg3cEALw_wcB If you do decide to do a tiled walk in shower, I would recommend doing a completely different tile, rather than one that looks similar. It always ends up looking like you have tried to match and not very good so best to go with something thats clearly different. Perhaps a mosaic or a white 300x75 brick effect tile?
