3 or 4 wardrobes doors

In our main bedroom have the option of making the wardrobe bigger to a length of 3.28m (full height to ceiling) and was wondering if 3 or 4 doors would be best, taking into account that the room is on the small size for a main bedroom?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

more doors means that they will be narrower and project less into the room and maybe consider bifolds or sliders that can open wider

Are you talking swing or sliding? The width of swing doors you can have will depend on height and material. The larger the more solid they will need to be. consider sliding doors in a small room. And look at how many tracks you want. Otherwise might want to limit door widths based on available swing space clear of bedside tables etc.
I have glass sliding doors in my laundry 2700 high 920 wide on three separate tracks to give roughly 1800 opening

What is the width and height of the aperture inside the doorframe, if there is one. In general, if you are ageing in place the door needs to be at least a meter wide, sliding (for wheelchair users) and not too heavy to use. Otherwise it comes down to personal preferences and space available.

Nice work oklouise. I was thinking the existing porch could be a walk in robe with the current front door being the entrance to the robe. Then reduce the double doors from existing entry to lounge to single and put a new doorway to the study inline with the master/study wall. that way you aren't removing external walls. Entry would then be through a new doorway where the lounge window facing the current porch. If the window is big enough then it might even be possible to use the existing lintil above the window and just remove the window and the bricks below which will save $$. I know you lose hallway but lots of houses (including mine) don't have hall ways per say but use floor coverings or furniture to create walkways around the lounge. I guess it all depends on how much $$ you want to spend in th end.

It would not look odd and is quite common. I've sold many robes over the years that had shaker-profiled sliding doors. I would highly recommend a heavy duty track like the "Indaux" system Nover sells and use 18mm doors.

We have the same layout as you in our 90s spec built home. We have Bunnings type cavity sliders so I imagine ours are about as cheap as you can get. They are awful - they are noisy when they slide so if one of us gets up in the night for the bathroom, we have to open the door in slow motion so as not to wake the other one up! We have them on our other wet rooms through the house and I find them not too bad acoustically but they don't screen anything in the ensuite. I would not recommend them at all. As for whether to have 1 or 2 doors, the only time I close the WIR door is when I am at my wits end haha! It's a great space for a private phone conversation but I really couldn't be bothered closing the door any other time

If they are sliding, i would go for narrower doors, or as Kate has mentioned separate tracks.

Sliding doors are always in the way to the part of the wardrobe. You can never open the wardrobe completely at the same time. But with separate tracks, at least you will only be restricted by the width of one door. Another thing, make sure the internal fit out of the wardrobes lines up with where the sliding door sides are. Other wise you will have difficult access to your shelving or hanging space if the door is in the way.
