Flooring Design Dilemma Dining Room

Does this luxury vinyl floor match this wall paint?

Replacing outdated laminate with luxury vinyl plank flooring and trying to decide on a color to match my existing paint job. Walls are currently painted with Behr's White Metal, which is a cool grey color (see below). I'm leaning towards Lifeproof's Luxury vinyl planking in Sterling Oak (see below). White trim with ORB hardware. Does this pair well? I'm waiting for the sample, but wanted to get some advice as well. Thanks.

They don’t look absolutely compatible but we can’t advise over a screen as all colours show differently. They will also look different in your house in varying lighting. Choose your flooring first. Paint colour should come last, by all means have an idea of what paint colour you’d like, but leave the exact shade selection until last as there are thousands and thousands of paint colours and your other choices have significantly less options.

Disclaimer -- I hate grey with a vengance . So i may be biased . But if you scroll up , and get the 'luxury planking' at the top of your screen , and the Perfect Boredom at the bottom ( the heading thing cuts through the middle ) it looks horrible IMO .

In the middle photo , the darker timber and the white actually makes the grey almost acceptible as a base , but look at the other pics , and even the floor is looking as grey as a corpse with all the colour washed out .

I agree with jbantick - it's actually fine - though if you've got concrete ceilings downlights wont work. See if you can run some LED strip lights under the overhead cabinets - they're great for task lighting and adding atmosphere of an evening - just get them to put the switch as a separate switch on the gang plate. I'd be tempted to go with white shutters or large blade blinds. I'd definitely be changing the window trims (to a warm white) and if you're determined to look at changing the walls I'd think about looking at half tint of the colour that's there now or in a slightly more malted tint. Deluxe have some great colours and if you're leaning towards lighter colours (including white) - just make sure to check the colours with paint pot testers on a large piece of cardboard and use white paper under/beside it when comparing colours, also make sure that you see the samples in all lights and at several times during the day as the colours can drastically change. Your floor tiles are lovely, I wouldn't cover them up with vinyl floorboards. The tiles are super easy to clean (if you've not got one already, invest in a steam cleaner - they'll keep your tiles looking amazing and they don't use chemicals).

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. Kate, I think you'll find it will be great with the kids. A friend has kids and a couple of dogs running around on hers and it looks great - very sturdy. I do agree the step definitely needs redoing. I'm going to walk him around the house and point out anything I think doesn't look professional. And I do agree, mistakes can happen and as long as they are rectified I can accept that. The guy we're dealing with is part owner of the business and was a layer for 10 years before going into the sales side. He has offered to come and do the fix up himself so I'm happy with that. Re the colour, I originally thought that we'd end up with a timber shade of some sort, but the house is small and I like the white washed, light beige look of the Ashland. I'll be interested to see what you choose. Very exciting times ahead, lots of work but it will be lovely to have a new house! Best of luck, Trish

Hey Dounia The colour and the way it has been painted is very much what we saw in the late 90's and early 2000's when we all went through the textured paint feature wall craze. But, saying that Paint and design technology have come a long way since then and I would encourage you not to give up on the copper idea and use a modern approach and product. Dulux have recently added their new range of Design Effects, Here's the copper and concrete look. There's also other options available at www.dulux.com.au. The ceiling is beautiful. I think you need to bring home samples until you find something similar to your inspiration pic. It doesn’t have to exactly match because there’ll be white between them.

As bigreader said, we can't tell from what they look like on a screen. The picture of the grey paint looks like duck egg blue on my screen. If it is a very blue grey I don't think it goes with the flooring.

Behrs website suggest a coordinating colour as split rail. Or carbon.
