I think you desperately need landscaping. But regarding the house.....Hang some pots between the pillars. And how about some standing flower boxes in between the pillars? Bigger than these (below) ideally. You could grow a flowering vine on those pillars too. I think the paint is too monochromatic with the brick. The door should pop more. Even if the screen door was black instead of pink. I think the garage door is what should be monochromatic with the brick instead of grey. The fascia board should be more of a contrast, like white. Our house north frontage, it is so lovely in winter, we have a small porch/verandah, use it all the time .. You have the gums for summer shade so you may not necessarily need a roof. I like Dohramei photo ideas as well. Nice metal garden furniture with removable cushions

What a wonderful purchase Learner. You have a lovely example of mid century modern with what looks to be an extension over the garage. To get feel for the style search here on house under photos - exterior, mid century. That will give you lots of ideas and references to what will work. I was in Palm Springs last year and have lots of facade photos if you want me to post some. Dr Retro is a Pro on here who could really help you with design ideas. He specialises in houses like yours. I agree with others though, I wouldn't mess too much with the design- mainly paint and landscaping - however I would look at changing those flys screens and the front door screen. Landscaping will depend on where. You are.if it is a dry Mediterranean environment you could definitely look at Palm Springs architectural and desert style plants. If you are in Melbourne look at the softer styles with maples and conifers as ground covers. All are hardy. All in all you have a lovely house that could be a most magnificent example of suburban mid century modern. In my opinion the more you play up to that the greater the $$ return on investment.

Without knowing what style or colour the Colourbond is , it's pretty hard to make suggestions -- oklouise has shown some stunning looks , I'm trying to think how to do something more on a budget ? Using JUST your photo ( i.e. assuming it had the wooden fence still ) I would have waterblasted and stained all the wooden fence ( the one that appears unpainted , the white fence on the left , etc ) in charcoal/black . The white gates I'd redo in white , but with one proviso I'll get to soon . The veranda ( portago ? ) I'd tidy , or replace if too far gone , with new materials . If going new , possibly also stain in charcoal , or a redwood stain , but keep the roof in crisp white . So to this stage , it's tidy but a bit darker , a bit more modern , but pretty boring . So add colour -- the front door , the garage doors , possibly the upper level gutters and downpipes , and the centre scroll in the gates to the left -- all in a stand-out fire hydrant red or sunshine yellow or citrus orange -- I'm hesitant to use orange , as combined with the brown , it may emphasis the 70's aspect , but if there is a barge board around the garage doors , then citrus orange doors with crisp white surrounds would look smart ! Depending on the veranda , and what work is needed there , then maybe $1000-2000 in materials and paint , and 2 days to a weeks work , and it would look more modern , less boxy , more 'happy' .
