70s home Reno. Blank slate, any ideas?
Comments (9)I suggest having the internal walls rendered and plastered, or gyprock over them (then paint a "white" that seems to work), and update the flooring as a starting point, along with changing the light fittings. I recently renovated our 70s home and regret painting all of the timber without living with it first. It looked horrible with the old walls and floors, but I think could have worked nicely with our new colours and given a nice hint of 70s to our place. I don't mind the verticle balustrade either. It could possibly work as a feature when the other elements are more neutral, possibly even painted black against the light walls behind. Outside, just replacing the palms ad painting the fence and balcony infills could make a huge difference whilst you ponder how to best work with wht you have (& not just try to pretend it is a brand new home, I am all for embracing the quirks)....See MoreLayout dilemma 70s brick house
Comments (41)Hi Do you need four bedrooms? If not, turn main bedroom into a kids room. Turn the lounge into main bedroom with en-suite, knock down the wall between the kitchen and the bedroom at the back of the house and then create one big open plan kitchen living dining across the back of the house. I envisage you would need to knock out the back wall of the house and add some square footage to get the space you would desire. You could also build a patio across the back with stacking sliding doors to create a beautiful indoor/outdoor living space that overlooks the pool. Good luck!!...See MoreRegional 70s inspired split level cladding and brick exterior
Comments (8)Pressure wash all concrete areas. Replace outdoor light for larger and brighter one (marine grade). The small one pictured isn’t doing much for illumination and it’s too small for size of wall. Leave brick as is. It looks fine. Whatever paint colour you choose for fascia and shed door should complement bricks. Trim and tidy all bushes and landscaping plants. The shrub obscuring the steps to entry need to be trimmed by one-third. Does the metal ballustrading & handrail need paint as well?...See MoreColour selection for 70s house exterior trims
Comments (25)To bring rhythm and flow with the house I would continue to use the monument on the garage door to bring connection of the deck with the house. Use the same for the baton on the deck. If doing the roof look to a similar colour as monument or in fact the same. Perhaps look at Half or Quarter monument for the concrete steps up to the front door. Paint your front door a colour to draw the eye..perhaps a dark, mid blue. The guttering looks in good condition but I would paint that the same as the roof including the downpipes. Go for a standard white under the eaves. I feel like you need something to the left of the garage to balance things out for street appeal. Greenery planted to hide the gap up to bottom of deck but planted towards the street to allow a meter gap to walk through from left of garage....See More- 4 years ago
